Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I don't understand this Reggie quote

So there's been a recent quote attributed to Reggie Fils-Aime which goes as follows:

"Look, we know that the fans want a straight Samus Aran game. We also know that the best way to launch a game like that is to surprise and delight them, to give them a launch date, in an environment like this let them play it vs. what other companies do which is to announce a project that you may not see for five, six years. It’s just not the way we do things. We know the community wants to see a straight-up Metroid game. We know it."

The vgchartz article containing this quote then proceeded to explode in controversy. As of this post, this article has engendered 41 posts. What I don't understand is why. Anyone care to elaborate?

They know and do nothing.

"What other companies do which is to announce a project that you may not see for five, six years. It’s just not the way we do things."
Most companies don't actually do this. It makes Reggie look ignorant.

Can't wait for The Zelder Scrolls 3: Breath of The Wild Hunt!

Well one can't just pull a Metroid game out of thin air.

Ah, I see.

To me it is obvious Nintendo has either started creating it or they have begun the process of making it. I'm just happy Nintendo is acknowledging the existence of both Metroid Prime and Samus Aran. Brighter days ahead.

Let's hope so. Retro Studios was absent at e3 and Reggie did mention wanting to surprise fans with a Metroid game release.

I would not expect it soon though.  Maybe nx  launch title if it launches in 2017 or later.

It's a jab at Sony and the last guardian situation. Of course, it's going to offend people

Reggie is pretty much saying "Hey, look... We know you want a straight-up Metroid game but we don't announce games when they are early in development so I won't say anything"

So could he be hinting at a new Metroid while trying to be as vauge as possible to prevent himself from announcing it???? I think so

but thats just how I see it. I'm probably wrong but I can still have hope.

"what other companies do which is to announce a project that you may not see for five, six years."

It's a snarky reference to Sony and the last guardian, which happened to reappear at e3 after all these years missing from the public eye. Can't you see it? It was obvious from the start from where I'm standing.
