Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Sorry 3DS, it's not you, it's me

Yeah I really don't like handhelds either as I'd prefer most of there games on a big screen. It doesn't help that holding and handheld is quite uncomfortable for me if I do it for a hour or so.
However there are a few games like pokemon and fire emblem that I feel work better on the handheld. Really depends on the game, but most would be better not on a handheld imo

I actually feel the same way and have been feeling the same way for the past 15 years ever since I had Pokemon Silver. I remember buying the Gameboy peripheral for the Gamecube and playing my handheld games on the TV for the first time - it was bliss. I just prefer playing games on a TV. I have bought handhelds for 15 years, but never because I enjoy playing on handhelds, strangely enough. It's because I enjoy the games being released on said handhelds. If Nintendo released a Nintendo TV that I can play GBA/DS/3DS games on with a special controller, I'd love it.

I'm the same with movies. I just can't watch a movie on a tablet or a phone; I have to watch a movie on a TV or in the theater to get the experience.

I've always preferred handhelds over consoles, but I understand where you're getting at..

Not everyone can enjoy handhelds more than consoles.

Its funny as that is almost the complete opposite for me.

I know that probably most people love playing games on the big TV screen, but I always felt a sense of awestruck at being able to take the actual games with me anywhere I went growing up and so that to this day, that is where I get the majority of my gaming in.

Too bad about the rise of touch only smartphone games that I just never get the feel for, due to a lack of tactile feedback.

Okay, so I've had a New 3DS XL, my first ever handheld, for more than 3 months now.

I've played Monster Hunter 4, Ocarina 3D, Starfox 64 3D, Mario 3D Land, Resident Evil Revelations, Kid Icarus, and Ironfall.

But whenever I play, I just can't stop thinking "this would be so much better on a proper screen, with a proper controller". The tiny screen and the tightly clustered buttons and sticks just gnaw at me.

No matter how good the games are, I just don't think the handheld experience itself will ever be my cup of tea.

I'm pretty much right there with you. I have had a few portable systems and generally speaking I just prefer to play on a bigger screen. Often when I play I tend to naturally look down and hold the system lower, same way most people do with their smart phones, and it ends up kinking my neck. I attempt to correct this, but always end up in the same position. I naturally have fairly good posture so it actually does really bother me, both mentally and physically. I perfer most things at eye level.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

I agree with you. Home consoles are vastly superior imo.

More power and better controls

I sold all my 3DS games :O

I currently have no idea where my 3Ds is and I don't care.

I would recommend games more tailored to the handheld platform rather than console-esque titles. Pokemon, Etrian Odyssey, Fire Emblem, and Link Between Worlds all come to mind as prime candidates. But if the portability doesn't interest you at all, then the handheld scene will never be entirely your thing.

I've kind of felt the same way, but it mostly just makes me angry at Sony for messing up the Vita

I've started playing Fire Emblem Awakening recently and it's great, but it really annoys me every time it shows me a beautiful anime cut scene and then I have to go back to the terrible graphics....

Though with Pokemon Y I actually want it simpler, I get slowdown every time the camera looks at Talonflame flapping his wings

But honestly, the quality of the games is enough to keep me happy despite these minor irritations. I've got Xenoblade waiting for me to finish a game, then looking forward to Persona Q, KH 3D, Bravely Default and Pokemon Omega Ruby
