Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Return Of Jrpg's??

with the announce of star ocean 5 and other games, it seems console jrpg's could make a comeback, what would be really be great...we know that at e3 level5 will announce there ps4 rpg (would love to see rogue galaxy 2), and media.vision could work on the next wild arms (loved the first 3, the hexagon battlesystem in 4 and 5 sucked a little bit), sony's final fantasy killer (who knows if it's true), with the announcement of monster hunter stories on 3ds, maybe we could see a ps4 entry of the main series...

I agree with Ka-pi96, let's wait for some of the games to release first.

I'm curious about the sales performance in the West.

yeah the thing with new announced games is that people get hyped about them and then complain about the quality of them. star ocean IV was hated by a large group of JRPG fans.

I am always hyped for JRPG's because they can be good but most of the time I am dissapointed in them...(enjoyed SOIV though)...

Give me a new Suikoden, Breath of Fire and Shadow Hearts plz!

Dont be greedy :P

we should be thankfull the game developers actually went out of their ways to make some non shooter type games.

(kinda tried of all the shooter type games) (another Call of duty clone anyone?)

This consol gen is looking good, I hope its a long one filled with many RPGs :)

Jrpgs finally leaving the ghetto of the handheld market, and I couldn't be happier. (Yeah, we've been getting jrpgs last gen, but mostly C-tier stuff, the interesting releases have been mostly on handhelds).

...Well, a proper BoF, Suikoden, or a Dark Cloud / Rogue Galaxy sequel could make me happier, but..

I am pretty sure there were a sizable number of JRPG's announced for consoles at the start of the 7th generation too. They just all turned out bad/mediocre. What is interesting is that Japanese developers are making a huge portion of these console JRPG's cross-generation.

Shouldn't really be surprising since Sony just sold over a million PS4s in Japan.

JRPGs were never really gone. They were always around, but they weren't the big name ones we knew before, likely because they were crap or died off. It's nice some of these titles are coming back and may return to goodness.

The surprising thing (or maybe the unsurprising thing) is that they aren't current gen exclusives.
