The Witcher 3 Runs with 60fps at Ultra Settings on Intel i7-4790 with GTX980, Gets New Screenshot

The Witcher fans, here is something special for you today. Yesterday we reported about the game’s lack of support for DX12 and a draw distance slider. Today, however, we are bringing you some good news (alongside a new screenshot).

Gamestar got the chance to play the PC version without any restrictions to the graphical settings it was using. As you’d expect, they immediately tried to run the game at Ultra settings in order to see whether current PC configurations are able to run this highly anticipated RPG.

As Gamestar reported, an Intel i7-4790 with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GTX980 was able to run the game at 1080p on Ultra settings with almost constant 60fps. This latest build of The Witcher 3 is said to report smoother than the preview build CD Projekt RED showcased back in January, and implements NVIDIA’s HairWorks (which Gamestar was also allowed to enable, and managed to sustain almost 60fps continuously).

CD Projekt RED has also released a new screenshot for The Witcher 3 that can be viewed below.

Enjoy!

Hope its true as i would love to play it at 60fps with my new pc :D

How much Nvidia is sponsoring them? A lot. Good for those who have gtx 980. I am happy with PS4 version. Now a days moderately powerful GPU prices makes me sick.

That i don't know, but one would assume its alot. I mean he even had the new nvidia fetaure for hair and still achieved it. At least its good to know its quite optimized as i thought it would require more then that  like dual gpu.  lol yea its expensive. Price of one, you can get easily a ps4 or an dXO. i remember building my pc and my wallet was crying lol

What a shocker. Witcher games were never nice to hardware. Always about cutting edge graphics.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

yea exactly and thats comparing to witcher 2 where it was horrible to hardware at that time especially for those who bought the retail version as it had drm. plus ubersmapling still requires a dual gpu.

To be honest, Crysis 3 still is one of the best looking games available and is way lesse demanding than most next gen ports. I can put it on high/ultra in 1080p@30fps on a GTX650, while this GPU won't run several of the next gen games or will have to do it at 720p/900p on low.

So far based on my playthrough , its indeed gorgeous.  But alot of people want to play it on ultra and 60fps and usually based on witcher 3, you will need a dual gpu thanks to Ubersampling.  Dont forget crysis 3 is not as open as witcher 3. Witcher 3 is suppose to have bigger world then dragon with those graphics and you know how demanding it would be for open world that looks that good at 60fps. Are you planning to get it on console or pc?

Well, needing 3 GPU for some settings is quite normal. Most high-tech games nowadays come with 1 or 2 setting specifically for people with 2+ GPUs.

Of course, Crysis 3 is not as open, but from what I saw it had higher quality vegetation and even not being open world, is a massive technical achievement. My point with Crysis was just to show that not always a game needs the highest requirements to be one of the best looking ones. With my GPU (that I want to replace ASAP), I can play Shadow of Mordor on medium/high in 1080p, while Evil Within won't run.

I'm waiting to be able to try the game. I didn't like some aspects of the combat on W2, but I want to give this game a longer try. With my current GPU, I would get the PS4 version. If I get a beefier one, maybe I can change my mind and get the PC version.

I shall upgrade eventually but right not 980 card is just too pricey.

Perfect; I'm building a rig with a GTX 980 this spring, along with the release of this game. By that time, AMD may have released their 390 series, which will push the prices of the 980's down; that and the fact that the 970 is selling so much better will put a lot pressure on nVidia to lower the prices, especially on the entry model 980's.
