Something like that is effectively what Nintendo would need to do in order to dig out of the reputation that you never (barring important exceptions like Monster Hunter) buy 3rd party games on Nintendo systems. GTA, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, mainline Final Fantasy, or Assassin's Creed. They would have to moneyhat one of those, and it would cost them a bundle to do so. Anything less than exclusive and it won't matter; people will buy it for other systems because that's where they're used to buying such games.

Well, timed exclusive could do it too, if you gave Nintendo platforms one Q4 with one of those games as an exclusive.

Actually now that i say that, it makes the third party conundrum seem more solvable.

That's basically what I'm trying to demonstrate: the power of one piece of software.

Around the Network

1.) GTA V is already on every other home console with better quality
2.) Nintendo has a different fanbase. Mass Effect 3, Darksiders 2, Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and a lot more games showed us that 3rd Party games don't sell on Nintendo platforms
3.) Remember GTA Chinatown Wars which showed us that GTA games don't sell on Nintendo platforms (considering the fact that GTA Chinatown Wars was on the most popular platform of Nintendo, Nintendo DS)
4.) I think a GTA V Vita port would be a lot more profitable, the PSP GTA games were beasts
5.) PS Vita has a fanbase which buy these games
6.) GTA V Vita port would be the first portable version of GTA V

Wii U owner here and I wouldn't buy Grand Theft Auto. Lego City Undercover had all the positives of GTA (open world, destructible environment), plus a hilarious plotline, all while not having the bad stuff from GTA (prostitutes, murder, blood, sex scenes, crude language). Why waste my money on that garbage?

I suggest you actually read the OP before you write stuff like this.

On a side note: Chinatown wars was a top view GTA so hardly a good example.

I know he is asking us if we would purchase a Wii U cause of GTA V. But I am answering generally for the mass.
And the PSP version of Chinatown Wars did equal (when not even better) than the DS version, though the PSP version released much later.

It would increase HW sales for the Wii U since it is such a big game...

..but I'm not a GTA fan, so even though I have a Wii U, I wouldn't buy it

What you know may be incorrect.  I asked if GTA5 were exclusive to Nintendo, would it have altered which console you purchased.  Also I was hoping for individual answers so that we, together, can get a "mass" idea of how this once game could have large ramifications when consumers purchase gaming hardware.  However, I do appreciate your endeavor to give us your summation of the situation.

Are you saying 'next-gen' exclusive? Because in this hypothetical situation I would have have just kept GTAV on my PS3 and still upgraded to a PS4 anyway

EDIT: And where is my option in the poll?  'PS3 owner that wouldn't upgrade to Wii U' or 'PS4 owner wouldn't have upgraded to Wii U'.  You need about twice the number of options.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

I wouldn't buy a wii u but a few million would. I'd guess they'd have sold about 3 million extra wii U's. It would be suicide by Rockstar though.

Just like when they went to OG Xbox... oh wait

it would sell some wiiUs but also kill the franchise and rockstar and take two.
