It really depends on the game I'm playing. DKC: TF and Hyrule Warriors for example dont really need the GamePad but then something like Zombi U or W101 needs it.
I wouldn't have considered it nearly as much without the gamepad, so no. It could be improved so much, but in the end, it's part of what makes the Wii U so unique and memorable.
I honestly don't care for the gamepad one bit.
I haven't used it enough but I love the idea of the Gamepad and after playing Mario chase and (soon) Hyrule warriors I can say that it is a brilliant concept just under utilized. I wouldn't enjoy the Wii U as much if the gamepad wasn;t there. I just wished they'd implement the playing on the TV and Gamepad more often with two players.

I would prefer either Wiimotes/classic controllers options and that be it. Gamepad is nice for remote play, but not for standard use imo.
If it had the same games that wouldn't change my decision to buy it. None of the games I played so far used it in any meaningful way. Except maybe 3D world but it didn't feel necessary.

The Wii U is already one of my favorite consoles because or the GamePad. I find it not only as an amazing gateway to unique game designs and the Wii U provides a good experience with the Internet Browser and video streaming services (Netflix, etc.), without even needing to turn on the TV. I'm typing this from my Wii U right now.
bet: lost
The absence of the gamepad wouldn't affect my views on the Wii U that much.
