It's really tempting to get a 4k resolution these days, plenty of sales in my area with half the price.

Unless you're getting a massive screen, or you have some hella fantastic vision it really wouldn't make any difference.

Whats needed for the PS3 to output 4k video?

Go back in time about 10-15 years and start the ball rolling on 4k TVs.

The Samsung curved 4k screens are so sexy. My two year old Sony TV looks like crap comparing to it :P the price is good. A 55 inch was 15999 and now it's 5999. That's a bargain.  I just need an excuse to get one soon heheheh XD

Not sure bout MS, but its pretty much the same hardware. Its already known PS4 can support 4K res in movies / pictures but not 4k gaming.

i know it's not for gaming but hopefully 4K takes off as quick as possible. I want to upgrade to a sick 4K TV in 4 years time for a reasonable price.

Aren't both consoles already prepared for 4K video?

If you are not seeing it on a huge screen (80" or larger) compared to a 1080p TV of the same size then it is highly unlikely you would even notice a difference.

I know for the the PS4 has the ahrdware to support 4K output (I am not sure if it's 30 or 60hz however)... There is at least one developper who tester their game on the dev kit a while ago, it was the PS4 port of Trine if I am correct.

I believe MS made similar claims before the release of their machine.

Basically, they both said 4K would be supported, for movies and other media types, but not for games... however that may change, but I doubt it's relevant on the XB1.

Honestly, for games with simple graphics it should be possible and it would look really clean, that would give us a real reason to get 4K TVs, but I would rather Sony release a 4K PS4 (with a faster GPU and faster memory).
