Japanese games mostly. I grew up with them and Western games rarely ever appeal to me for whatever reason.

All ill say on this is Mario, Zelda, metal gear solid and resident evil, not the biggest fan of fps or open world games but I do like some of the western. Games.

old skool

Its generalisation, but i prefer the way japanese did games during the ps1 and ps2/dc era. Nowadays they have been struggling to go back to that level and evolving it, but things like Xenoblade and Persona were steps in the right direction.

Western i dislike for the most part cause its all lights and smoke, A big spectacle without much depth. Repetitive, shallow and unable to hold my interest. Of course, this is also generalisation. I do enjoy mostly Bioware and Bethesda RPG's.

My point beeing that at their best, they are both amazing and at their worst they are both terribe, except one hides it better than the other.

Japanese developers. I like the more subtle self aware approach they have for the pseudo-marriage between story and gameplay.

MGS, for an example, is like an outsiders view of the spy movie genre (and many others). But in hindsight, the bazaar fantasy elements that are smoothly implemented in a world that resibles reality makes it something like... An anime that criticizes these genres?

And lot's of games, wether intentional or not, has a last boss with God and/or Satan symbolism behind it. I like that trope.

More cinematics? Isn't Metal Gear Solid the game people complain about having to long cutscenes?

I prefered Japanese games but some gamemechanics in them tired me. Grinding in Jrpgs for example

There's an expection to every rule (Like Blizzard developed games).

Blizzard aren't the only exception though.

By the sounds of it you don't dislike western games, only certain genres of them. Try the other genres, see what you think then.

Bingo!

But that's how Western developers usually develop. I would say about 75-80% love to use cinematics. The expections to the rule is what I usually play.

Damn it's close... I didn't think people still played Japanese...

Keep in mind your audience here.  Not really representative of the whole gaming community.  We have an amazing thread for the Vita, but in general gaming it is dead in the west.

Yup just like we have an AMAZING thread on Bayonetta 2 (350+ posts), but yet it sold only about 400k worldwide...

Yeah I know not to get my hopes up too much lol

Most of my favorite games of all time, are Japanese made: Super Mario Bros., Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Mega Man, Castlevania, Puzzle Bobble, SFII, Star Tropics, Pikmin, Golden Axe, Final Fight, Double Dragon, Aero Fighters, Samurai Shodown, Final Fantasy, etc. etc.

There are certainly western developed games I like, even older ones. But by and large, I like the way Japanese games at least USED to be made. That's why I still like Nintendo, and love many of the indies (even western ones), because they still make games more in that style.

Hmm. I enjoy jap games the most. I don't even really think about that until I'm asked a question like in the op.

I love it when Western Devs adopt practices frequently associated with Japanese Devs. Case in point, Metroid Prime series.
