Its generalisation, but i prefer the way japanese did games during the ps1 and ps2/dc era. Nowadays they have been struggling to go back to that level and evolving it, but things like Xenoblade and Persona were steps in the right direction.
Western i dislike for the most part cause its all lights and smoke, A big spectacle without much depth. Repetitive, shallow and unable to hold my interest. Of course, this is also generalisation. I do enjoy mostly Bioware and Bethesda RPG's.
My point beeing that at their best, they are both amazing and at their worst they are both terribe, except one hides it better than the other.
