Japanese developers. I like the more subtle self aware approach they have for the pseudo-marriage between story and gameplay.
MGS, for an example, is like an outsiders view of the spy movie genre (and many others). But in hindsight, the bazaar fantasy elements that are smoothly implemented in a world that resibles reality makes it something like... An anime that criticizes these genres?
And lot's of games, wether intentional or not, has a last boss with God and/or Satan symbolism behind it. I like that trope.
