Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Phil Spencer: More Xbox One/PC cross play titles coming in 2015

hmm, could be FF XIV Realm Reborn as well maybe?

They'll probably need to allow PlayStation/Xbox cross play first, not just PC. Yoshida has been pretty vocal about them wanting everyone to be able to play together.

Hopefully MS come round eventually though. It's a really great game.

I think that ship has sailed. Not only that, but it would have to be cross play compatible with the PS4. I love the thought of a Xbox One/PS4 cross play fighter. It'd help keep the community more activie. The question on my mind is, will this include PS4 crossplay in the future.  If so, everyone wins!

I'm not sure what Microsofts problem is really. I mean they had FFXI on 360 and it had crossplay with PS2/PC.

Wonder what changed their minds this time

I can see games like Fable Legends and others going to Windows maybe if they're not the type of games that will push consoles, but things like Halo or some of Microsoft's other biggest IP's I doubt since they need those to push Xbox One sales.

If they put all of their exclusives on Windows as well then what would be the point of buying an Xbox One?

As long as the big exclusives like Halo and Quatum Break stay exclusive to Xbox only, I'm happy.

It will be a blow to Xbox One. Consoles distinguish themselves from others with exclusives. This will reduce the value. If you want to play a game then get that system. If Nintendo games came into PC then nobody bothered to get Nintendo systems.

It didn't seem to affect the 360 much. Though I guess with the PS4 being the hot console this generation and PC gaming being resurgent thanks to Steam, it could turn off more potential Xbox buyers this time around.

But why would it matter if games came to XBox on PC together with releases in X1? MS might sell fewer X1:s but sell more software and therefore make more money. It would mean that PC got included in the whole XBox brand together with console, smartphones and tablets. That is a pretty large user base for them to make cash from.

maybe they're focusing on selling more software, moreso than HW

Microsoft and Sony are not that unique in that they share a large amount of one anothers libraries. Microsoft sharing exclusives with PC in no way hurts Sony, but rather gives PC gamers another reason not to buy an Xbox One.

it will be on xbox regardless, so why would them going to PC bother you?

They would actually make less money, a lot less actually.

When you lose exclusives it gives consumers less of a reason to buy your console, and any short term gains you make off of selling the game on pc would be negated (by a large margin) by the loss of the yearly xbl sub and the platform fees off of any game they buy on your platform.

So anyone who says MS is stupid not to put all their games on pc is just downright ignorant of how the business works.

The perfect example was the original xbox, it was one as the pc port console and that made its sales suffer greatly.

EDIT: Shika makes another great point, less sales for xbox means less games for xbox owners, again og xbox was another example, because ps2 was so far ahead of the xbox in terms of sales PS2 got WAY more 3rd party exclusives.

Now before I am done let me make one more point. If porting all your exclusives to pc was the "smart decision" why don't Sony and Nintendo port their games to PC?
