XIII is one entry in a series that spans 14 games (not counting sequels as those are extensions of the main game).

The story isn't concluded at the end of XIII, so you kind of have to count the sequels (unlike VII with it's series or X). XIV also had to release twice as the first game was terrible, and people were fired and layed off due to it. Not really a good track record for 7th gen. (Sorry, you can't scream do over and get a free pass.)

Yes but either way, there's over a dozen other games which we can draw reference from which you're excluding.

If, say, someone asked for what features could be taken from Zelda to another game and you limited me to choosing from features seen in the Oracle titles, then what's the difference to this?

Regardless this is venturing off topic. I maintain that both series' are great and can learn from one another; even if certain entries are exceptions to the rule.

Aren't most of the people who made those games either already at Monolith Soft or Mistwalker though?

The games people would want to take inspiration from would be 6-9, and Monolith would have a better idea about how to go about making a game like that than Square-Enix. You don't go to Aonuma and collaborate because you loved the direction of Ocarina Of Time.

Even if you count them, they're still extension of FFXIII. Same characters, same gameplay, same items, etc.

And sure, FFXIV was released twice but, the second time it was released, it became one of the best MMO out there.

And Xenoblade Chronicles became the best jrpg of last gen the first time.

I think Xenoblade can teach Final Fantasy to not keep changing battle systems. Seriously, I hated 13's battle system.

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

there is no rivalry between final fantasy and xenoblade

final fantasy is a decades old multimillion copies selling franchise whereas xenoblade was a niche game that still has not sold a million copies

also since no one has actually experienced final fantasy 15 outside of a few trailers there is no way to know conclusively what the entire list of features it has entails although personally i'm far more impressed by what i've seen of final fantasy

The sales argument is a very weak one. I didn't know you could play sales.

I know, right! And the "niche game" is a nonsense argument too. Xenoblade was a new IP back then and (almost) sold 1 million with shortages.

If JRPG is niche, then FF is niche and, above all, it has nothing to do with quality.

I think that both games will be very good.

That's because they weren't interested in the last entry ...

Marketing creates interest.

You know, I would point you toward a place where the lead designer of FFXV specifically said it was a competition between the two, but what good would that do right? You ignored it when Samus posted it, what would be different?

you cut out the part of my post that clarifies what i'm talking about specifically

"final fantasy is a decades old multimillion copies selling franchise whereas xenoblade was a niche game that still has not sold a million copies"

but eh whatever if you actually think that xenoblade as a franchise is a rival to the behemoth that is final fantasy do your thing bro

You're clinging to those sales. Nobody in their right mind is trying to say that Xenoblade competes with Final Fantasy in terms of monetary value. Absolutely no one. What everyone in this thread is talking about is the quality of the game and the features that they can share to ultimately make them better.

You can't play sales. You play games. Remember that.
