Their early strategy sunk then for a gen, the hardware cant be changed and they are stuck. Contrary to fanboy opinion, MS will not waste their bank account on buying X1 into a success. Their fire sale was as far as they will go and it was only temporary hopeful showing all they just will not eat loses long term. To do PS4 numbers in 3 or 4 markets they need to be sub 100, if they cut price that much so will sony. They are dammed no matter what, they should openly just accept 2nd and plan for the next gen.

They are already doing that. By buying exclusives, promoting a large ammount of 3rd party games, taking a loss on the console by reducing the price twice and giving free games and money to those who buy the console.

And paying 2.5 billion for Minecraft (not only xbox.)

See when you buy a exclusive you can guess well enough its sales its worth and make a busines case for it.  IF MS was willing to waste $ on xbox they would have launched at 399 from Day one.  But they didnt.  They are not willing to eat such loses,

Minecraft has nothing to do with xbox, its may be worth it.  Wasting tens of billions on xbox to try equall PS sales in a handfull of marlets clealry is not.

Xbox had a massive price cut to push sales this holiday period ( naysayers it was near a fire sale tbh original price of $400 lowered to as low as $300 to $330 along with two games and sometimes a gift card is an insane price slash no way around and 1 year in ......... thats never been done )

It was too gain momentum, which it did. However now that momentum may plummet now the price is up with the reasoning of waiting it out for the xb1 price to crash down again and then pick it up OR it could have pushed sales so much that it could have lead to the snowball effect , however as it stands if the price remains as it is THIS year I think ps4 can beat ( yes even with Halo 5 coming , say what you like but the fps overcrowding + halo 4 multiplaer + MCC issues have damaged halo's FPS dominance and power and people haven't realized that with TLOU and TLOU: R , ND can counter Halo 5 pretty well with Uncharted 4 )

Aside from halo their exclsusive line up for this year doesn't have a power system seller ( TR isn't that popular on the xb platform and while QB may be amazing , it's a new game releasing in q3 ( a bit crowded ) to a dev that hasn't had spectacular sales ,and ps4 seem to be enjoying 3rd party boosts more this gen.

So I am wondering what you guys think :

XB need more games for this year

Do Ms need to lower the price

(Also Now people are telling me it's only 3rd parties avaialble , there is truth in thst but it isnt an excuse as 3rd parties have the console in stock and at a lower than normal price)

I think the error people are making are to say that MS is in trouble because of relative sales. The X1 is selling fantastically - it's on a notably better pace than the 360. Noone things the 360 was a failure. But the Wii ran away with last gen quite early. There seems little MS could do to actually win the generation, too many countries simple prefer the PS brand. (Last generation showed this clearly - the 360 had the substantially better lineup, and price, across the board for the first two years, and it's advantage was stil minimal)

What MS needs to do is accept that they won't win the generation, and just make the right decisons to focus on a successful product. The 360 and PS3 had basically a tie for units sold, but the 360 had more more software, peripheral, and online sales. Overall, a much more profitable product. The X1 will not be as profitable as the Ps4 this generation, but if they can maintain similar sales ratios from last gen, the financial gap shouldn't be as large (percentage-wise) as the install gap.

The momentum according with retailers ended in December already even with the deal alive.

The sales decreased a lot from what I read.

Maybe BenV can give us a better situation comparing November with December.

Nothing to see here, move along...

That was my impression of the OP. But, one cannot but slow down to look at the disaster as it happens.

I disagree that the XB1 is in a dilemma of any kind, other than launching at the wrong price to begin with. But that is not a current dilemma. The only dilemma that i could think that it is in that can not be fixed with $$$ is that fact that Sony has the real mindshare everywhere outside of the US. So, Sony will always be able to tout sales numbers that are 2 times that of the XB1 for 8-10 months of the year. I am sure M$ knows that and has learned to accept it as it is.

It is near the end of the end....

Never been done 1 year in?  The PS3 did it after 7 months. You do remember that right?

Whats that you say?  That wasnt a price cut it was a cheaper model intro?  Thats right..... it was.....

Was the ps3 esentially half the initial price in a year? No you say, then this is worst, dont you think?

half price. lol. wtf are you talking about.  forget it, I'm out of here if this is the level of debate in this thread.

Lets brake it down like many have done before,

Kinect -$100,

holiday pricut -$70,

2 bundled games -$90,

= -$260 first holliday

some had a year of live -$60,

some had a gift ccard -$30(I think),

Some added a third game -$60.

This was optional by some third partys so it lets not count it,

Now what was the the ps3 pricecut?

Well, the value of the standalone X1 from the AC bundle varied depending on what kind of deal each retailer offered. Let's say the total value of AC: Unity + Black Flag equals $80 (and I'm being generous here). Subtract that from the original $350 pricetag, the value of the standalone console is $270. Remember when Target offered $50 in free game credit on Black Friday? The bundle's price was also cut to $330. Subtracting the $80 from games and $50 for the game credit, the value of the standalone X1 equals $200.

So throughout the holiday season, the value of the X1 varied between $200-$270 depending on what kind of deal you got. Yes, the PS3 also got a significant price cut within its first year. However, the X1's value was nearly half of its initial value during the holidays ($500), sometimes even half of the initial price of the standalone console ($400)!!

When you look at this in perspective, while it gave the X1 spectacular sales in November and December, it also skewed consumer perception of the value of the system when the deals ended. Basically, why get one now when I know that I can definitely get a much, much better deal next holiday season?

SCIENCE BITCH!!!!!   sorry, could not resist, more acurate to say math, but what ever :p

Well, the sciences do apply math, there is some truth in your initial statement

Also, I was being very generous with the value of AC Unity + Black Flag, which I believe actually totals $90. Considering that you could get an X1 at as low of a value as $190, well.... o.O

New buyers have a great selection of games to choose from and a great selection of new games coming this year and beyond. The exclusive schedule for the next few months is way over exagerrated how it will drive the market. Yes the price should go down to $349/$449 ($50 price reduction since release), but that can happen in February or March once all the AC bundles are gone.

They will have a better choice with the PS4, X1 has nothing for a few months nothing to exagerrate there.

And X1 had better choice for end of 2014 and those games are still available. No one has said those games are off limits to new purchasers.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
