Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Confirms New Console, Evidently Powered by AMD

Hmm, I thought all Nintendo fans had given up on those power hopes.  I guess there are still a few hopefuls out there.  And yes, I mean the Wii and the Wii U.  Both of which were/are just slightly more powerful than the strongest consoles of the previous gen.  The Xbox for the Wii and the PS3 for the Wii U.  In the Wii U's case, it has a better GPU, but a weaker CPU.

And as one of your other comments go, no the Wii U is not compable or just a little behind the PS4.  It is a generation behind in terms of power.  The specs show this, as does the games' graphics/resolutions.

Or, to put it in your words...

(I couldn't help myself.)

I wonder what gimmick they'll use next. VR is too obvious, need to be something more unexpected and original this time.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

Hopefully they use the "streamline what you already have" gimmick. You know, like the successful consoles.

Would ONLY make sense IF the SoC has GPU-GDDR on chip.

IF this is the case the Wii U successor will run circles around PS4 and XOne....

But I don't count on it. As the Wii U is late 2016 only 4 years old and there a still many possibilities left to push it.

Nah they need new hardware out by then, the Wii U is a massive flop.

Some blind journalists.

FACEBOOK has Oculus Rift but no device to power it. Their console will use TRUE NEXT-GEN GPU power. This is the x86 design AMD spoke about... . It makes totally sense to use a design similar to PS4 and XOne to ease ports while providing GPU power "beyond believe".

AMAZON needs to update their Fire settop-box to NOT FALL BEHIND. This is the AMD design AMD spoke about. And its perfect for a cheap contented giving the customer TV and some Android games which are not so "power hungry"...

Nintendo should already have begun making money from it.

For Nintendo it is more a question of customer faith and loyality then having more third party support. Thirds won't come automatically even if a new Nintendo console would run circles around PS4 and XOne.

Same situation as with N64 vs. PS1 and GC vs. PS2. Both Nintendo consoles had better 3D support and were more accessible to the programmers. Didn't help.

Sales count. And I don't think that Nintendo is expecting that the current Wii U base will switch after four years (!!) and go with a console whose lifespan might be even shorter... . And the current bunch of PS4 and XOne owners won't flock to the next Nintendo console too as they've invested far to much in their current system.

Nintendo has to get out the current situation by doing what THEY can do best: INNOVATING in GAMEPLAY.

In late 2016 we might even see a generic "Windows Box" OS for free suited just for playing Games. This and a Facebook-Oculus Console would totally make sense together...

Nintendo hasn't innovated in any way.

I'm not even talking about third party support, I'm talking about customer interest. I don't think Nintendo will ever get third party support to any significant degree, at least not the EA's and Ubisoft's, but maybe with indies. 4 years is plenty of time for a console to be out, especially one that is a huge failure.

powered by AMD? so meaning no more Wii/WiiU physical disc backward compatibility confirmed...

I thought the Wii U processor is AMD....

My question to Nintendo is "why u no intel/nvidia?" (the answer is probably cost but it's a better choice)
