Nintendo should already have begun making money from it.

For Nintendo it is more a question of customer faith and loyality then having more third party support. Thirds won't come automatically even if a new Nintendo console would run circles around PS4 and XOne.

Same situation as with N64 vs. PS1 and GC vs. PS2. Both Nintendo consoles had better 3D support and were more accessible to the programmers. Didn't help.

Sales count. And I don't think that Nintendo is expecting that the current Wii U base will switch after four years (!!) and go with a console whose lifespan might be even shorter... . And the current bunch of PS4 and XOne owners won't flock to the next Nintendo console too as they've invested far to much in their current system.

In late 2016 we might even see a generic "Windows Box" OS for free suited just for playing Games. This and a Facebook-Oculus Console would totally make sense together...

Nintendo hasn't innovated in any way.

I'm not even talking about third party support, I'm talking about customer interest. I don't think Nintendo will ever get third party support to any significant degree, at least not the EA's and Ubisoft's, but maybe with indies. 4 years is plenty of time for a console to be out, especially one that is a huge failure.
