Forums - Gaming Discussion - Screwup means Assassin's Creed Unity's patch is the 40GB full game on Xbox One

I miss the days when Ubisoft used to make good games.

Screwup means Assassin's Creed Unity's patch is the 40GB full game on Xbox One

The mishaps keep happening for Assassin's Creed Unity.

The fourth major patch to fix a game deeply flawed at launch already weighed in at a chunky 6.7 gigabytes. But on Xbox One, a mistake means users will redownload the entire 40-gigabyte downloadThere's no timeframe for when this supersized download problem will be fixed, either.

"Unfortunately, an issue with the patch downloading process is replacing the entire game instead of just the parts affected by the patch," Ubisoft wrote on the official Assassin's Creed site. "This is obviously not the expected behavior, and we apologize that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download.

"We are working with Microsoft on a solution to reduce the total download to the intended size so that you can get back into the game faster," Ubisoft added. "but as of now we have no ETA on when this will be resolved."

Ubisoft says that those who own the disc version of the game on Xbox One can uninstall it and then reinstall it, and when the game starts it will download the correct 6.7-gigabyte file.

This fourth update is meant to fix performance issues, such as framerate drops, crashes and lost progression. It needed to be large because Ubisoft rebuilt the city of Paris within the game to help its framerate.

Assassin's Creed Unity's launch state was so broken that Ubisoft offered some premium downloadable content for it for free (and a free full game to those who had bought the DLC in advance) as an apology. The PC version of the game had a "no-face" bug (pictured above) that produced many infamous screenshots during Unity's launch week. The Xbox One version of the game also had glitches exclusive to that platform corrected by an earlier patch.

Polygon scored http://www.polygon.com/2014/11/11/7192467/assassins-creed-unity-review-xbox-one-PS4-PC">the latest entry in Ubisoft's marquee franchise a 6.5, grading it down for "an uninspiring story and a long list of considerable technical problems." For more on those problems, see this roundup.

Agreed. I enjoyed it more than other praised games this year like Shadow of Mordor or Dragon Age. The combat actually has depth and variety to it unlike my experience with the other two games.

Still, it is a technical mess.

How can it be 40GB on xbone when it is 6.5GB on PS4? Ubisoft has fucked up hard here

Screwup....or great opportunity??

If the patch is, indeed, the "full game on Xbox One" (as in, it's the digital download), wouldn't XBone owners no longer need the disc to play, just like any other digital purchase? Then they could just sell the physical game on eBay or something.

That sounds fun. But good to hear that they're still fixing it. Really glad that I waited and played some other stuff instead. Looking forward to playing it in its better state.

The disc version of the game is only a 6.5 GB dl and the digital owners have to redownload the game after deleting the old one.

I'm a huge fan of the AC series loved them all except for #2 (forced myself through it). This is the first one that has had me waiting until all this stuff is fixed. Then again DAI came out the same day and I would have got that first anyways.

No I thought the PS4 and XB1 both copy everything over to the HDD on first install and the disc is only for DRM?

Hot on the heels of at least two Destiny DL disasters, Ubisoft decides to got and shaft X1 owners with this gem. I know it wasn't intentional, but I honestly feel bad for you guys. Destiny server connection issues piss me off enough as it is on my PS4, and I can't imagine dealing with these, too.

What the hell ever happened to testing and quality control? MS should be giving developers swift kicks in the ass this Christmas.
