NES.
The original has not aged well, and Zelda 2 was awful even for its time.

Blasphemy!

Zelda 1 hasnt aged well? Hmmpf

Zelda 2 is vastly underrated because it's different than everything else in the franchise, it was a great game at the time and is a great game today.

I appreciate difficulty, but Zelda 2 I felt was just cheap and unfair.

Let's agree to disagree =) Zelda 2 is probably the hardest Zelda game and I fully enjoy it.

I also expect me to be in the absolute minority and possibly getting some hate to say that I do not like the N64 Zelda games. Not at all, mostly because that I really really hated the N64 at the time and when I gave OoT and MM a try some years back the game hadnt really aged well at all. I have decided to give them another try though, but this time on the 3DS I will wait for Majoras Mask and possibly the New 3DS to get released first though.

I voted NES. I bet Zelda 1 was really frustrating to people that had no guides.

Why is that? Nobody had a guide back in the day and everyone was able to finish the game. We had to use our memory and our head though, maybe that why it is hard for today's kid. Nowadays, if there's no detailed maps with all tresures and objectives listed, people stops playing the game and quickly turns to a game that takes you by the hand and autosaves every two minutes to make sure that you don't get bored to re-do something with their bad gameplay. Like I said before, I'm getting old ;)

In my opinion: Running around until you accidentaly *Inserts action* is tedious.

I'm pretty sure they did it to make the game longer.

This.

There is absolutely nothing fun to me about not knowing where to go or what to do next, it's just boring.

WII U only remakes and a spin off so far XD

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

GameBoy Advance, like, by far.

Four Swords is the worst thing ever and I wished it actually wasn't even part of the main series. It has nothing that makes a Zelda game a Zelda. Minish Cap is also a pretty disappointing game. Excluding FS and FSA, MC is the worst selling Zelda as well. The DS wins over GBA for me because Spirit Tracks was actually a good game, while the only redeeming factor for the GBA is that it has a port of A Link to the Past. Before the WiiU remaster I found Spirit Tracks to be better than Wind Waker, but WWHD remedies most problems so now considering that version I'd put Wind Waker ahead of Spirit Tracks. Phantom Hourglass was as mediocre as Minish Cap though, so that drags the DS down.

Minish Cap's big problem is that it's ridiculously short for a Zelda game, it's the easiest of all games by far and I don't like the esthetic and the soundtrack. It doesn't fit anywhere with the rest of the games because Capcom just recklessly recycled characters from various games that don't fit together and it's story doesn't take any other game into account. I also find the shrinking mechanic to be pointless, because it doesn't change anything, puzzles as Tiny Link are exactly the same as normal Link.

Yeah, I don't like Minish Cap, I think it's a bad Zelda game.

As far as systems with the best Zelda's go; N64 wins again easily, because it has both the best and one of the best games on it. And even though I think Link's Awakening is the second best game in the series and A Link to the Past is better than Skyward Sword, the GameBoy and Super Nintendo having only one game each puts them lower than Wii which still contains two top entries:

N64 > Wii > GB > SNES > 3DS > GC> NES > DS > GBC > GBA

The games themselves I'd rank:
OoT > LA > TP > MM > ALttP > SS > ALBW > LoZ > WW > ST > AoL > OoA > OoS > PH > MC > FS

Went with Wii. It had the two most disappointing main console entries to the series.

Don't understand how anyone can hate on the original. It might still be the best of the entire series.

Edit to add best games in series

It's too hard to pinpoint the best console for Zelda, so I'm just going to give my list for top series entries across all platforms.

Ocarina>LoZ>Wind Waker>LttP>Majora's Mask>Spirit Tracks>Twilight Princess>Minish Cap>Four Swords series>Phantom Hourglass>Oracle games>Link's Awakening>AoL>Skyward Sword

Must play, GOAT games in the series ends after Majora's Mask. Spirit Tracks to Phantom Hourglass are all decent to great games but just aren't at the same level as the others. Bottom four can be skipped entirely. Spirit Tracks to Phantom Hourglass placements on the list are all fairly interchangeable, so don't get all butthurt if one of these is your fave and behind one that you hate.

Well I, for my part, think that today's game are pretty and big but most of the time it's just walking/running between point A and B following predetermined objectives that are not necesserely hard nor fun. And you waste so much time running around between objectives so that out of a 40 hours game you will have walk 37 hours for nothing, just to go where your supposed to go. I find this very tedious and a waste of time. You can go around the entire map of zelda 1 in less than 30 minutes and if you have the bracelet you can move quickly to predetermined places. For me the best part of Zelda 1 is its difficulty, it's hard, mistakes are not forgiven, no saves just before the boss, it's hard to kill Ganon, you would like to have more than two potions. And for those who are playing with an emulator (virtual console are usually ok), more than often, the controls are not as responsive as the real thing (i'd say the same thing about metroid 1) and not as fun for sure.

DS. I absolutely despised the touch controls. GBA was probably best with its Link to the Past remake, for me anyway.
