As well as SA1 being amazing (for 1998) and SA2 being decent. Sonic Colours, Sonic Generations and Sonic Lost World are also decent polygon based Sonic titles.

If you honestly think these games are good then you are blinded by a fuck ton of nostalgia. Horrible story, horrible graphics (even for its time), horrible voice acting, glitches, bugs, horrible gimmicks, horrible gameplay ideas (Big the Cat, seriously?), horrible animations, etc. If these games were released today they would get slaughtered by critics. In fact, if they remade these games with better graphics and change nothing else I'm convinced it wouldn't score higher than 75%. These games are nowhere near Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64 or Metroid Prime. Those are good examples of games making the transition from 2D to 3D flawlessly.

And are you denying that Sonic Colors is mostly a 2D game? Lmao, no point in argueing with you. The 3D stages of Sonic Colors were probably the worst part of the game.

PS3...  The problem is with the game's physics.  But, running at 60 frames does help.  I've had many instances of spindashing/boosting in the opposite direction (this had never happened on Genesis, unless my fault entirely) and if you run directly into a vertical bumper, you go upwards.  You always had to jump directly on those to activate them in the older games.

and then, momentum still isn't handled correctly.  Why am I loosing momentum when I go through a loop? and just... so many other problems.  Green Hill act one is easily the game's best moment and that's only after you have the entire act down to memory and can speed-run it.  I just get angry when I play generations outside of that.

But... about this game..  Is there any good sonic games on Wii U?  And, I know it's different, but, how would Sonic Boom be, in terms of quality if it didn't have sonic characters, or bugs?
