Congrats, Smeags But the embedding still doesn't work

#30 - Mega Man Battle Network. Great game

#29 hint - The 360 started with the first. The PS3 started with the second. The WiiU started with the third.

Guess I'll have to wait for 20,000 to have my next chance.

37. Mario Kart 8
Wii U (2014)
Nintendo EAD 1

Mario Kart 8 is one smooth game. From its silky 60 fps, the tight and responsive controls, its jazz-tastic soundtrack, and with the amazing visuals... the game is really a complete package. There's no one aspect of the game that outshines the others. Everything just comes together so wondefully to create a complete game, something that I honestly cannot say about too many other games out there. All that and the game is immensely replayable, whether you're with friends on the couch or with friends across the sea. Mario Kart 8 is a game done well. And more than that, it's game that's so much fun to play. Oh, and the new DLC content is brilliant. Mute City is such a fun course!

36. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
SNES (1995)
Rare Ltd.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest starts off exactly where Diddy and Donkey Kong left off from their first adventure: On board King K. Rool's Pirate Ship. Only this time, something's amiss... Donkey Kong has been kid (er...ape?) napped! It's up to Diddy and Dixie to stop Kaptain K. Rool (I love Rare's take on this villain, changing him up for every game) and save the big ape and their bananas. Despite playing it a few times on the Super Nintendo, it was actually through the Wii's Virtual Console did I really get to sit down and enjoy the heck out of this game. It was a game that prided itself on its challenging level design, but while challenging was always fair (something that I do admire in the Donkey Kong Country franchise). When playing with my roommate, I would always be Dixie (her floating hair trick was always appreciated in the tougher levels), and together we defeated Kaptain K. Rool and saved the day! Dixie Kong is the best Kong out there for sure, you go girl!

35. Super Smash Bros. For 3DS
3DS (2014)
Sora Ltd./Bandai Namco Games

The rule to not accept games that released past November 1st, is really bumming me out right now. Because Smash Wii U would most definitely be in my top 25... easily. But it'll have to wait, and instead I find myself with Smash 3DS. It's still an amazing game, to be sure. An amazing cast of characters, awesome pacing (right bewteen Melee and Brawl), cool new stages (Prism Tower is my favorite), awesome music, cool new modes. You know, the usual greatness that a new Smash brings to the table. But what makes this new Smash game special to me is the fact that my main is Sonic. I can't tell you how awesome it is to play (and do well) as the Blue Blur. Probably the most fun and the most satisfying to play as in my entire Smash run... Sonic just feels right! And now with Smash U in my console... the Smashing is only going to get better from here on out!

#30: Pokémon LeafGreen/FireRed (Game Freak, 2004) - GBA

The Pokemon game I've played the most in my life was Pokemon Silver: over 100 hundred hours, and the Pokedex was technically complete (missing just some Gen 1 and Gold Pokemons). And while I still love that game, it's this one that I find the most fun. I'll fully admit it, I think it's the nostalgia factor. While I still have fun with the series, I'm mostly indifferent towards it today - the series could die tomorrow for all I care. I find 700+ creatures to be incredibly overwhelming, but here, I just have to deal with a little over a hundred. And, thanks to the cartoon and the Pokemon OBSESSION every kid/teenager had at the time, I know all their names and types (the same is true for Gen 2, but after playing SoulSilver I realized the Pokemon "distribution" there is kinda lame). Like I said, I had fun with Emerald and Platinum, but seeing "Trainer is about to send X!", knowing who X is and what I should use to defeat it just increases my enjoyment.

tl;dr: I prefer Gen 1 because I'm most familiar with it, and Pokemon distribution makes sense, unlike Gen 2.

#29: A dead man and an imaginary person. Great group.

34. Bioshock
PC, PS3, Xbox 360 (2007)
Irrational Games

Bioshock is as much an experience as it is a game. And I need to take some time to give this game as much credit as I can for not sacrificing one for the other.  So many times we'll see a game take control away from the player to say what it wants to say (ala Metal Gear Solid), but in Bioshock, you're in control the entire time... or are you? Despite the player's control over Jack (the main protagonist), the game takes a rather revolutionary look at something as simple as gaming objectives, and works them around in a way that really impacts the story in a huge way (I complete a gaming objective without question because the game - or in this case Atlas - tells me to). The game gives you complete control... all while giving you none at all. Quite brilliant in its own little way. Not only that, but Rapture and its citizens are oozing with atmosphere and personality. Sander Cohen remains one my favorite delightfully disturbing characters in all of gaming. And despite the game's lacklsuter ending (the game really hits a wall when it reaches the climax), the rest of the game is so astonishing and captivating that it's really been an unforgettable experience traveling around the utopia gone to hell.
