Wait they already cut off the PC and TV divisions and still posted a 1.2b loss?  How did that happen?

I guess they forgot to sell a building.

Has there ever been a company that does so good and so bad at the same time? Sony is like a retarded kid that gets a free pass because he's really good at art class. Stop fucking around and make some money, dammit!  If I was a pimp and Sony was my bitch, Sony would have two black eyes.

They're just being undercut by cheap Chinese no name brands, especially in the TV/electronic and mobile markets. If you ask me SONY should abandon all their "high end" TV/electronics lines as they have not been 'quality' for many many years.Release good quality stuff at a very good price, thats where the big bucks are.

I didn't think they would make such a colossal loss last quarter, and at this rate they are getting dangerously close to being bought by other companies. They need to turn things around NOW, not next year or the year after that!

Sure Sony still have some problems. If you read the financial report you can see that a writedown of goodwill by 1.6 billion for mobile devices is inclouded in the 1,2 billion loss ini q2 2014. The interesting part is if Sony can turn its mobile devices division abound. The result for q2 was better than expected since the writedown of goodwill was announced before the q2 2014 result.

Interesting that this article is using vgc chartz :) , made the article less serious.

XBOX TROUNCED

Sony's shrinking slice of the smartphone market is in stark contrast to its dominance in game consoles, where its PlayStation 4 has trounced the Xbox One made by closest rival Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) and has broken even within only a year of its release, a feat its predecessor achieved in four years.

Sony increased its annual operating profit forecast for the gaming unit by 40 percent to 35 billion yen after selling 3.3 million PlayStation 4 consoles in its second quarter. By Oct. 18 it had sold 12.3 million consoles, against 6.1 million Xbox One sales, according to market research website VG Chartz.

The electronics market no longer is about advanced technology but about the cool brand. Apple have been imitating and behind d Android for a while but they make tons more profit by overcharging and selling their products like hot cakes.

Sony needs to make less products and market them better and more!

This is exactly it. IMO Sony needs to cut down a few of their divisions to single branded devices. One Bravia TV label with multiple sizes, the RS, KLD, XBR variations confuse consumers and make marketing harder. On the Phone side they have Xperia M, T, and Z is the same situation.

If Sony was to refine down to the Bravia XBR only, and offer 40, 47, 52, 60, and 70in versions they could focus marketing, and cut costs.

The cut the phone line down to Xperia Z models only. Offer a Z Compact with 4.5in screen, a Z flagship 5.5in screen, and a Z ultra 6.5in screen.

On the Xperia side they already have one of the best and least expernsive phones available in the Z3 and Z3 Compact. They just need carrier support from all carriers in the markets they are released in, and a massive marketing push followed by good consistent brand aknowledgement. These phones are sold at a decent profit already, but the volume is just to small.

On the Brvia side things are much more difficult. Though they constantly have the best displays, and prices have plumited in the last few years, putting them very competitive or lower than competition. The amount of momentum LG and Samsung have in the mid to high range sets will be hard to overcome, but is possible with better integration from all sony services. With PS Now, Music/Video Unlimited, and leading the way with OTT live TV they could get a decent amount of momentum behind the Bravia brand.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. The loss last quarter was due to a one time write-down charge to its mobile division. Outside of mobile, everyone of of their division was up YOY (with only pictures making an operating loss, though it was 1/18th of the loss it made last year). They were expected to make a $1.7b loss, but thanks to the growing health of their other divisions, it ended up being $1.2b.

Sony is still floating down shit creek, but unlike this time last year, they have a paddle now :p

Yeah blame it on everything else except the gaming division. The truth is that the gaming division is not making big profits either...
