I also noticed that after you get to try your friend's game, your system will automatically download updates for said game as if it's on your system

You are handing over full control of your game. Save files are included in that.

You are so wrong about this that it hurts.  Different games have various differnt ways of saving games.  From autosaves to save points to screen prompts.  Share play allows the person to play as you.  It is your responsibilty to make sure they don't overwrite or delete your saves via game menus.  Every game is different.  They are not babysitting your entire experience.
