Forums - Sony Discussion - Potential security issue on PSN (again)

I didn't say popularity was the root cause, you did, I merely used what you said and asked why this thread's ok?  PS4's more popular, that's just a fact.  You can create whatever goalposts you want (forgetting that the PS4's servers are separate from the PS3's), but those are the facts.  You also seem unable to read that this exploit is in fact resulting in zero personal information being released, but, that's ok.  Tachi and other's have already illustrated those points.

Can you point me out where I said such things? I do not think this hack is a big deal at all actually :)

Could someone without an agenda tell me how serious this is? I would have thought a major news site would have picked up on this by now if it was

It's not actually been hacked, someone simply pointed out a vulnerability, that will get you no sensitive information.  Hence the OP 'Potential security issue'

Dude... I know it is cool to say something like that but I hope you realize how wrong this is... Stop saying random non-sense stuffs like that to try to prove your point. Maybe you read something like that on a forum or somewhere else but it does not make it real. And I hope you do not really know computers, network and how a virus or malware spread and what weakness is used to "spread" to make that kind of comment. (and even if you read that on a random forum, at least provide source...)

Firstly, she's no dude.

Secondly, perhaps you weren't around in the days of windows XP's phase-out period, but there was this little bugger of a virus called Blaster, which has since spawned thousands of variants.

In 2008 (6 years ago now, nearly 7), the average "time to own" of a fresh install windows XP machine, with no action taken from the user was 4 minutes.
http://blog.chron.com/techblog/2008/07/average-time-to-infection-4-minutes/

"While the survival time measured varies quite a bit across methods used, pretty much all agree that placing an unpatched Windows computer directly onto the Internet in the hope that it downloads the patches faster than it gets exploited are odds that you wouldn't bet on in Vegas. "

These survival times vary from country to country, dependant upon factors such as number of people on the same ISP block running an infected windows XP machine, and on if the router you're using is running it's own firewall or not, but here's an interesting graph for you based on a fresh XP install connected to the internet, from moment of connection and moment of infection, this is for the period spanning he past year only.

And this is even with most ISP's over the past 5 years adding filtering rules specifically intended to stop these viruses and worms, and the average isp provided router including a firewall.

Fact of the matter is simply this, XP is a deathtrap unless you have all of the latest updates on a usb stick to apply, a good software firewall and a good hardware firewall.

Oh.. So if you put this machine in the right environment the average time for this specific virus that existed at this specific time was 4 minutes...
Can you please, tell me where in that you see that Windows XP will get infected no matter what in 10 seconds while connected to any network like stated by his/her? Because you know, this is the thing, I just replied to this specific non-sense and explained something that is a fact... WINDOWS is everywhere... And yes it has a LOT LOT LOT of virus/malwares because of that. Nobody (I certainly did not) is aguing with that.

Now if you want to argue, we can argue about the fact that either you think Microsoft is doing crappy softwares with a lot of security holes in it while other OS as super safe and will not get as many virus/malware if there were also sharing 96% of the marketshare. We have a good topic to argue here at least :)

The thread is about PSN being hacked again... Not the PS4 and its popularity

but its not seen as a big deal, yet its brought up to point out that Sonys network is so vulnerable, and that you need to rethank about your security of PSN. even though PSN has not been hacked again and a Security Expert says the exploit is still there on PSN after pointing it out 2 Sony two weeks ago. Than lets not forget all the trouble of PSN after the 2.0 update..

with PSN being so easy to hack, and their software so unstable is it anywonder its selling on hype only- soon you will all see how much a failure Sony is..

Please..Please buy into everyone else but Sony/s

LMAO even Nintendo has a more secure network than Sony...LMAO

its like the telemarketting scripts are being ran off tons of copy print.

invest in lots of ink , i say red or otherwise

Which major news site might that be? By now there is nothing official how serious which doesn't mean it is not serious.
