Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft to overtake Nintendo in Home Console Sales this Century

Nintendo is just too conservative but when MS entered the business I think Nintendo made a concious choice that MS is such a massive company that dwarfs them in spending power that from there on in they weren't going to try to compete head on anymore. So if say MS did things like woo third parties, Nintendo stopped doing things like that almost entirely (aside from a few Japanese collaborations). If MS was going to emphasize online, then Nintendo's philosophy became to not do that. Etc. etc. etc.

Nintendo stopped really getting 3rd parties the gen before Microsoft came along...

They had that pretty massive deal for Resident Evil in 2001, but as time has gone on they've become more reluctant to engage.

And in a way I sort of see their point, do you want to get into a pissing match with a company 20x the size of yours? Maybe you'll win one or two rounds but eventually they'll simply outspend you. I think Nintendo realized that when MS basically offered them $25 billion to buy them like it was nothing to them.

Even on MS' side ... really after almost 15 years in the business they basically have made no real headway into Europe or Japan, and in the US even they're being beaten again fairly soundly by Sony. Honestly if the PS3 didn't make the mistake of being $600 at launch, it probably would've routed the 360 too.

Why not say "this Millennium"?
If you're planning on reaching then you might as well go all the way.

Woah, you went THERE.

He always goes there.

OT: It's not nice to give such a crutch to MS, Seece. It'll be more impressive when/if they outsell all Nintendo home console sales.

Because that's not about to happen tho.

I know. I just think it's kind of unfair to MS to give them such a big crutch.

nes and snes?

edit: ahh only sales after 2000?

not the best wording for the thread titel imho :D

"this centuray home console salse"

not  "in home console sales this century"

shush.....   NES and SNES will make this arbitrary comparison useless!

no seriously I fail to see the point here.

If the thread would have been made in 2005 the Xbox would have sold more than the gamecube. So Microsoft wins. If this would have been made in 2012 Wii would have won agaisnt 360.

Microsoft to overtake Nintendo in Home Console Sales for this week

I'll check back in 2099 to see if this thread statement ended up being true.

Wii U at 6.68 and MS at 7.4? It's Microsoft 6.3 maybe (heard it's undertracked) and Wii U at like 7.5m

No it isn't. This is shipments. (I'll update when Nintendo release theirs).

Then this thread it about home console shipments, not sales.

O.P. Yay? "Xbox will catch up to Nintendo in home console sales (shipments?) eventually if you leave out two of nintendos consoles!"

Even then, only if Nintendos next console does poorly and MS does well.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

No, will happen with XB1, and then some.

And really, shipments become sales, all the old consoles shipments have been sold as will all the XB1 and WiiU's in the OP will be.
