When the news broke last week it was seemingly improbable that this would actually happen. Sure, Microsoft is not removing Minecraft from Sony platform, but never the less this has to be the biggest shocker of the year IMO In term of gaming news. What would be your biggest gaming news of 2014? Anything more shocking then Microsoft buying Minecraft?

Technically MS didn't buy just Minecraft; they bought something bigger that contained (in a way) Minecraft. But yeah, unless something really surprising happens this year, I doubt anything could be bigger.

Microsoft on paper bought Mojang, but in reality the only thing they're interested is the brand "MINECRAFT". 

In accounting term the Mojang acquisition give little return in term of asset and a massive $2.X billion good will.

They bought Minecraft, Mojang will be renamed as another MS studio, and the other 2 games are worthless and most likley will be shutdown now. 

well, now only time will tell if Microsoft will make Mojang keep its shine or if it will be the next RARE...

Biggest news? Why? It changes very little

Don't down play the importance of Minecraft, I have never played the game but I still know that it's one of the biggest current gaming IP hence the $2.5B price tag. My three young nephews have been playing nothing but mine craft over the summer and they were eagerly waiting for Mine craft PS4.  It's not like the graphic will suddenly be outdated for the next gen console since the game was never about graphic!

Nope. The biggest news is Destiny getting not enough points in the rating game.

but will Minecraft 2 do enough to recapture the magic or be the next Wii sports resort?  Also will MS take it off everything except X1 because otherwise it'll be just like 360 having Minecraft exclusive which didn't do much hardware wise.

Today at work, people in the lunch room even talked about the deal, and they don't even play video games! :)
