Why didn’t Microsoft, Square Enix or Crystal Dynamics say upfront it was a timed exclusive? Why all the indirect language?

This should clear up some information then, especially for a certain mod on this site who didn't believe it was timed. :)

It is very clear Square Enix did this because of Naughty Dog. They didn't want to release TR the same time as Uncharted 4. Seems like they were scared shitless at the idea of battling with Naughty Dog. They probably thought uncharted will take off some sales off Tomb Raider since they are quite similar. Especially after the rave reception of Uncharted 4's trailer at E3.

Get it over man. We have uncharted 4 which will be better than tomb raider. Let Xbox One have its exclusive; even it is timed.

How can you make a better build on XB1 and XB360 in comparison to PC and PS4?

So do Microsoft employees go up on stage and say whatever comes to their head?  Or do they have a pre-planned speech way ahead of time?  They knew exactly what they were doing and what they were saying.  They wanted it to seem like it was an exclusive to XB1 and XB360 during Gamescom.  If they "didn't intend to cause any confusion with the announcement", then they should have asked someone in grade school to write their speeches.  They could have written a clearer message than what Microsoft came up with.

ONLY when there was HUGE negativity of how Tomb Raider may not come to PC and PS4, especially PC where the franchise started, did Phil Spencer come out and say that it is a timed exclusive.  It is like DRM but with timed exclusivity all over again.

Microsoft has huge negativity over their head that they desperatly need to get rid of.
