Or made by someone who doesn't know video games.... Empire magazine, lol.

I don't know who they are, but it's a better top than many out there. I started gaming in the 80s. This idea that these "tops" must be filled with ancient games, specially in the top slots, is silly and just for show/pretensiousness.

Who said they needed to be?

If new games can make it really high, how come Fire Emblem: Awakening wasn't on the list at all. I wonder if they even played the Nintendo games or just rated them on critical reception.

It has no hype surrounding it and it's not available on home consoles. This automatically means it can never be a great game.

Portable games never get any sort of recognition.

Also, it's Empire magazine. I could make a top 100 list and be more credible than those guys.

Not bad. Chrono Trigger should of been a bit higher.

Shenmue @ 7....... (my personal number 1 still to this day)........ nice to see it get some acknowledgement though.

Three gaming companies i will respect forever............. SEGA, Capcom, Nintendo.

My gaming HERO= Yu Suzuki (The father of Shenmue, Virtua fighter, he's also an arcade/3D gaming PIONEER)

Proud member of the Sonic Support Squad. (not that he needs it anymore after Unleashed, Generations & All-Stars Racing)

That doesn't make it any worse of a game. Pokemon Red/Blue was on this list, and most importantly hype does not make a game better.

I understand that is the reason it's not on the list, but I don't think it's a very good reason. I have had a Wii/Wii U and a ds/3ds and my favorite games are mostly spread evenly between them.

I never said it was a good reason, but it's true. Pokémon Red/Blue was on the list because it was a huge smash hit and became a classic, hence it's the highest rated portable game on the list.

Is it actually the best portable game ever? No. Is it the best Pokémon game ever? No. It's not even the best game playable on a Game Boy. But it sold like hot pancakes and nowadays people feel nostalgic about it.

BTW it seems the list was made by someone who has started gaming after 2000.

With Elite in there? :p

Actually seems more like a list from people who have been gaming for the long haul but aren't clouded by nostalgia. Noting that it was a vote by the magazine's readers, not just a few journalists opinions.

Pretty well rounded list, though it's clearly swayed by popularity of systems/titles. Elite's presence is due to it being one of the best games of the 80s. Nintendo's presence not quite as heavy as some on here will expect, because it's a UK magazine and Nintendo have never been as big in Europe as the US and Japan.

Impressive that Chrono Trigger made it, it wasn't released here until the late 2000s as a handheld title and later on iOS/Android.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

I think a lot of older games are better without having to deal with nostalgia. Super Metroid would easily be in my top 10, but I only played it this summer.

This list does not surprise me. In a bad way.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
