BTW it seems the list was made by someone who has started gaming after 2000.

With Elite in there? :p

Actually seems more like a list from people who have been gaming for the long haul but aren't clouded by nostalgia. Noting that it was a vote by the magazine's readers, not just a few journalists opinions.

Pretty well rounded list, though it's clearly swayed by popularity of systems/titles. Elite's presence is due to it being one of the best games of the 80s. Nintendo's presence not quite as heavy as some on here will expect, because it's a UK magazine and Nintendo have never been as big in Europe as the US and Japan.

Impressive that Chrono Trigger made it, it wasn't released here until the late 2000s as a handheld title and later on iOS/Android.

I think a lot of older games are better without having to deal with nostalgia. Super Metroid would easily be in my top 10, but I only played it this summer.

This list does not surprise me. In a bad way.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Other than the peculiar choice for #1, I actually quite like this list.

It's interesting, I never really got on with Super Metroid, yet I loved the Prime games, Symphony of the Night and Metroid 2 and Fusion. (Never played the NES one)

But as I edited in my post, Nintendo will have suffered from a much lower presence in the 8 and 16 bit days in the UK compared with other parts of the world.

I liked metroid 2 as well, super metroid was just better imo. It had a lot better music anyway.

Shenmue is my favourite game and I was surprised to see it riding high at number 7.

Feel like it's too soon for The Last of Us to be a number 1, you can see how a lot of the games on the list have influenced gaming going forward and we haven't really had time to see how The Last of Us will influence gaming in the future.
