I need to complain about this anime.

SAO: Alicization.

I noticed you guys aren't talking about it because it's weeabo trash. I know a lot of people didn't like SAO to begin with but I've enjoyed it so far. Until Alicization. Every episode just seems to drag on and on and on and on. The plot barely moves every episode. It took them like 10 episodes for them to move to any semblance of a plot. With the other seasons, the arcs were short and move quickly and there were usually two per season.

As for the characters, if you thought Kirito was boring and uninspired, Eugeo is even worse. As is his love affair Alice. All of them are bland and the show only focuses on these three characters. The bad guy is barely fleshed out, just enough to make you hate her. But they make her so fucking hot that it's kinda difficult to care that she's evil. The show also doesn't focus on any characters outside the game world. This time it's called Underworld. How original. Because their souls are stuck in this weird purgatory.

Asuna and company were in the first 3 episodes and that's about it. In the 19 episodes since, she's appeared a whopping two times. Which is bullshit because she's my favorite character.

To make an accurate comparison, watching Alicization is like watching Domestic Girlfriend. A TRAINWRECK. Except without the laughs or the spice.

PLEASE SAVE ME AND RECOMMEND ME SOMETHING GOOD.

Recently, I liked Zombie Land Saga and Familia Myth: Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon?

I thought it was great. Season 3 took a refreshing change, and I don't think it got dragged out, more so prior seasons got there story arcs rushed especially the first one which I feel like should of lasted the whole first season. True more Asuna is always better but at least... (Spoiler for the next season)

Spoiler!
Asuna goes into the Underworld to save Kirito.

I've dropped plenty of media for that terrible literary device.  I don't understand it.  A good author should realize that by making the enemy look good, it makes the protagonist look even better.  Beating a stupid enemy, though?  Big deal.

There was a fantasy book I started not long ago.  Really liked the main character and the primary threat had a lot of potential.  It turned into something of a feminist romp, yeah, but I've read books with a feminist slant before and enjoyed them when they were well-written and realized.  Not this time.  In this book, the author's way of empowering the female characters was to make all the male characters stupid, petty, and weak.  On top of that, at least three of the male characters had love or desire for a female character as one of their primary motivations.  On top of that, the female characters were the ones with the strongest magical powers and by far the strongest warriors.  It came across as nothing more than wish fulfillment and ruined a story that had some actual potential.

You don't make your heroes look good by giving them a cakewalk path to victory, you just bore your audience and potentially break their sense of immersion.  It's bad writing.

That sounds like a great book. Women rule! Men drool! *sticks tongue out and rolls down eyelid*

In seriousness that wish fulfillment issue is something that really bores me in any medium. It's one thing if it's being done for comedy, but when a story tries to pretend a hero is troubled but never really show them dealing with a real challenge or a conflict that isn't resolved in 5 minutes it feels like the author is trying to have their cake and eat it too. I'm not going to believe a character is an underdog if everyone else is just completely stupid or satellites around the MC...it feels less like the author tried to create an interesting world and more they created an avatar and decided to write a story about how cool they are.

I found SAO 3 to be great compared to SAO2 which imo was garbage. What was even more garbage was Index III compared to how Index I, II and Railgun I and II were.

SAO 2 was pretty bad. I just hated SAO 3 even more. I'm probably just getting weary of this series.

I seldom read Anime News Network reviews but sometimes I'll check them out at the start of a season just to get some overviews. That's when I remember why I seldom read Anime News Network reviews.

Last season, there was outrage that a male character being framed for sexual assault by a female made light of sexual assault against females. This season, there is hand wringing that a cute comedy about a shy little girl is making light of social anxiety disorder.

Do people just want to be offended if at all possible?

So I need anime recommendations, to be specific I'm looking for shows that are set in Feudal Japan and are supernatural, ghosts/demons/ghouls etc.

Have you seen Kimetsu no Yaiba yet? Just watched the first episode and that fits what you're looking for I think. I just watched it and I'm still reeling from it...really powerful first episode. I can already tell it'll be one of my favorites this season.

Though I guess I probably said that about Shield Hero too...hopefully I'm not wrong this time.

Most people probably already watched but I must recommend anyways.

Inuyasha

Other popular shows that aren't so supernatural like Rurouni Kenshin and Samurai Champloo are also recommended.

An anime that is really short but good is Blade of the Immortal.

Not sure if it qualifies exactly but check out Katanagatari. It's very stylistic and an overall cult hit.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Favorite anime's I've watched lately:

My Hero Academia, Rising of the Shield Hero, Magical Girl Specs Ops Asuka, Promised Neverland (just started and love it), Kimetsu No Yaiba, Fairy Gone, and Jojo's.

What are your thoughts on Black Clover, and Quintessential Quintuplets? I'm thinking about starting both soon.

Also, excited for Dr. Stone in July.

Any Rurouni Kenshin fans here?
