Well. If Sony's plan was similar to what Microsoft was... Nothing would have changed for me. Still would have bought both consoles. Microsoft's plan included the ability to LOAN and TRADE your digital games. So you were able to sell a game you purchased digitally. I don't even do that much used game buying and selling, but having that ability would have likely made me do it more. Much easier to just trade a digital game in then going to a store and having to deal with all that.. There were also going to be way more aggressive digital sales on newer games under Microsofts old policy. Yes, alot of this was just promises and who knows if it would have all came to fruition, but if this is what the policies were going to be.. I would have prefered it.

Microsoft sucked with their messaging on all of this. Everyone freaked out. Somehow everyone is ok with GameStop making money off us, but not Microsoft.

You can trade or sell digital games now, it's not something Microsoft was going to generously give you.

Huh? How are you trading or selling your digital games? X1 and PS4 do not have this ability. Nor does the PS3 or X360..

Of course they do, I've been doing it for years now. Just sell the account your game is on.

Steam gets  a lot of heat for DRM but it's not an issue because it's a PC based seller.

Why not an issue?

Not to mention Steam competes with other digital sellers for your dollar.  You don't have to buy from Steam, you choose to - and not in a "don't like it, don't buy it" devil's advoate way.  You legitamatly can choose who you want to buy from.  It's not just "The Steam Store" on a PC.

Where do you buy NEW AAA non-indie games?

You can do mods/expansions that you can't do on any console.

True.

Upgrading isn't a thing with Steam games.  You download a game in 2008 and get a new PC in 2014, you still have that game.  Not so with consoles that lack backward compatability.

I got the impression this was covered by XboxOne originaly.

Finally, in many cases, games that need patches on consoles may never get them, or they get them in an untimely fashion.  While a Steam game gets patches a week after launch from some fan who just fiddled with the games code a bit.

1. Why not an issue? It's not an issue for the reasons named later in that post.

Did not know this! Any reason why Greenmangaming is lesser known than Steam? Something strange?

Thanks for the info!

I'm a Wii-U only gamer this generation so, it wouldn't have affected me. But if the industry goes that way as a whole? I'll probably just focus on collecting and playing Atari2600-PS2 era games and living off of those.

Why not 7th gen?

Many of the 7th generation games feautred online components that detract from the game if you don't have access to the internet. The 360 itself won't even show box art of downloadable games if it's not online. So for me, the cut off line ends with DC/PS2/Xbox and Gamecube because that's the last time video games (speaking about consoles here) were fully boxed products. After that, games started shipping without characters, maps, levels...basically 3/4th of the game in order to make more money.

Not really. Some games did that, but there was still many complete games. Especially on the Wii.

My pleasure.  I don't know why GMG isn't as well known, I don't game on my PC.  Heard about them from my brother, who just googled "where to buy games besides Steam".

I'm speaking in general here. The 7th gen is where games in mass start shipping half full (with the exception of Nintendo of course). I could honestly stretch it to the 6th generation if I wanted to. There were enough online games to warrant that imo. But it definitely jumped the shark in the 7th gen.

I would like to amass a collection from the Atari 2600-SNES era myself. I think THAT is the true cut off line. We went from 2D to 3D and from nerdy pasttime to cool kid mainstream sort of thing.

Honestly might have built a pc. I used to be into pc gaming but now I'm done with that for several reasons.

The going thing I'd I haven't got one used game yet and I've been going digital way way more than I thought I would. Being able to play games and not have to change disc is a lot more convenient than I thought.

As someone who has money and no friends I couldn't care less.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Would have cemented my decision to only go Wii U this gen, and then buy/build a better gaming PC

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.
