It appears MKWii will have some improved online functions including text chat. http://www.aussie-nintendo.com/?v=news&p=22229 This could be the reason for the announcement of Pay 4 Play, unfortunately, IMHO.

doubt it.. first of all we've already seen the boxart to be a blue logo, second, adding text chat is not going to increase the cost of servers for them all that much.. since its just a string of characters.. third i guess would be my opinion, which is that pay to play is for MMOs

I thought the same thing about the box art, but that can easily change.

I DO agree its probably for MMO's, I hope Ninty fixes past online issues (ie friend codes) before they go crazy on P2P.

I don't see why Mario Kart's online mode wouldn't free, considering that both Strikers Charged and Brawl have free online. They're all big Nintendo franchises with similar online play requirements, why create a dividing line there?

I'm with those who say the pay-per-play label will be for specially selected titles such as MMOs.

I hate voice chat though like text chat being an seasoned PC gamer, in Unreal 2004 I always typed things instead of the voicechat it kept it getting annoying with people yelling at you and saying things like "LOLZ I JUST PWNED YOU N00B" or "YOU CHEATING FA**OT" I believe there should be text for random matches to keep people less annoying, then if you like them add them to your friends list, then have voicechat with your friends, best system in my opinion. But usually I don't use voicechat either way cause I'm usually quiet while playing online.
