Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony to Continue First and Third-Party PS3 Support as Long as “There is a Good Business”

Unlike Nintendo who drops their last gen console like a hot steamy dump right after current gen releases.

Around the Network

I don't feel my PS3 is getting the great 1st party support fans have boasted about since the PS4 released.

3rd parties are doing the heavy lifting.

Don't forget about Kingdom Hearts 2.5 now.

But like my 360, it is still getting a great selection of titles. For now. I wonder how long third parties will hold out? Same thing I guess. Sales. Money.

I think PS360 will get AAA support for atleast a couple more years. Maybe they'll get support with indie games and other low budget titles even longer.

Xbox Live is an incentive for MS to continue and encourage 360 support.

They already have 90% of their resources focused on the PS4. 3rd parties will continue to support it for a year or two, but Sony is already moving on. They've almost completely abandoned the Vita, and the number of 1st party games coming to the PS3 between now and when it's discontinued will be countable on one hand.

The cost of developing has risen too much. The days of Sony strongly supporting their consoles for 10+ years is long gone.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Its truly ironic how PS3 got heavily trashed at beginning of the gem but ended up on top of the hill with exclusives still being pumped out

DS?

I will agree though, more or less. Wii....what did we have? Fortune street? Zelda? What can we include? Mario Party 9?

N64...ummm....GC....ummm...TP?

Well, the N64 got Paper Mario and Conker until 2001 so it wasn't dropped too fast.

I know that plenty of 3rd parties are still supporting the PS3, especially the Japanese 3rd parties. Interested to see how much of Sony's 1st parties are still supporting the old console.

The PS3 will linger on much like how the PS2 did.
