#3 for me. Digital is super convenient. It's not that I hate digital. It's that I love having a physical collection displayed nicely on a big shelf. Sometimes I just pull up a chair and stare at it.

Having a couple MBs of your WiiU's internal storage filled with Earthbound code is keen, but having that near mint condition Earthbound cartridge proudly sitting on my shelf..is...uuh.. Excuse me, I need to go hold Earthbound for a moment.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with an emotional attachment, by all means it's your game and you enjoy it the way you want.

What I am saying is that my digital version of the game and your physical game are exactly the same. No difference, other than you have a physical disc that can easily get damaged, while I have a download that I can keep stored on my console, as part of my digital collection. I just have all my games available to play instantly in one place, that's the only difference.

Publishers don't see that though. Publishers care about maximizing profit, not in that tiny bit of magic you miss out on by playing a digital game. Digital games mean that more and more developers can publish their material without having to pay for manufacturing and shipping, along with competing for retail space. This means that more games get published in the long run, and more money can be spent straight on the game rather than manufacturing and shipment costs.

There are still many people who miss the "magic" of cartridge gaming, but publishers don't care about that. They'll do whatever is best for them and the games they release.

In the end, that's just the cold, hard truth.

Edit: Also, Ni no Kuni is freakin amazing.

Well I don't particularly care about Publishers :P They can do whatever they want but I am going to be as vocal as possible to make sure that they know my dollar is going to go to physical games before digital games! You asked why people hate digital, so I explained why I love physical. I know the monetary benefits of digital games but I don't particularly care ;)

PS: Ni no Kuni is average at best ;) This isn't the time or place for this discussion but I'll link you to Kupomogli's review as he and I are fairly like minded on the subject ( http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=170924&page= ). I find faults in pretty much every aspect of the game though, which go far beyond the complaints that he has :P

I can't fault you for being vocal, and I hope that we always have a choice, so both of us can enjoy playing the games we like.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree on Ni no Kuni

For me it's simple: you don't really own the digital copy. It isn't yours, you just have a license. Because of that, I prefer to get everything on physical media and just grab digital copies in sales with heavy discounts, knowing that I'm risking losing the in the future. Believing that companies will keep any promise related to allow you to keep the game forever is just naive.

Technically there's a EULA for a physical game too. All you own is the disc itself, not the game on the disc.

Sure no one is breaking down your door demanding the disc or threatening to sue, but they are allowed to take away your right to play the game, if they so wish.

No company out of Steam, Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo has ever taken down games from users' libraries, unless the game itself broke a company policy or the user did something so stupid it caused an account ban (and even then you'll still have the ability to redownload games most of the time).

If I had gone digital, I wouldn't have gotten MK8 five days before release and Tropical Freeze a whopping 10 days before release. Physical retailers sending early, yay... now you don't get that with digital.

But seriously I want a physical collection because then, the one who owns the games is me, and not the console... looking at that console right now

Edit: I do buy games that are available digital-only though.

It's #3 for me. I do download, but something about having a tangible copy is just really appealing to me. If it just came in a box with a code to download it, I would prefer that over downloading it directly just because the box makes it tangible.

edit: I forgot to mention that I would most likely go for an official box, since that way it doesn't feel like some kind of fake.

1) I only have 100GB a month with is split 50GB on peak and 50GB offpeak. Once you factor in downloads for movies and tv shows, I can't afford to download a 30-40GB game every month.

2) Digital games last so long as the servers are running. As someone who still occasionally dusts of the Atari 2600 from when I was a kid to play Riverraid, its nice to know that I can play these games until the hardware carks it. With digital, I could only play it until the servers are shut down.

3) In Australia at least, digital is more often than not more expensive than physical copies in store, leaving digital with the only benefit of not having to find the disk to play a game, and that benefit is not worth the negatives of points 1-3.

My problem with digital games is that I can't have them on all of my consoles. I have two of all my consoles. One in the living room, and one in the master bedroom. I wish the big 3 would employ apples policy of one account covers all systems. I have six apple devices and never have to rebuy any app or game on any of them. But if I download a digital copy of a game I can't do the same on a console or handheld. That is especially annoying with the 3ds where a lot of my games are suitable for my kids, and that forces me to get the carts instead of digital.

With Sony, Microsoft, and Steam, you can have the same game on up (at minimum) to two seperate consoles at the same time. Only Nintendo doesn't allow it.

I like having a physical collection, but i must admit digital on the Vita is fantastic but they have to drop the memory card prices!
