For me it's simple: you don't really own the digital copy. It isn't yours, you just have a license. Because of that, I prefer to get everything on physical media and just grab digital copies in sales with heavy discounts, knowing that I'm risking losing the in the future. Believing that companies will keep any promise related to allow you to keep the game forever is just naive.
