Looks like it is doing alright with the few games that put out for it this year. Smash Bros should help it out during the summer and there might be slight cuts or bundles offered during holiday season to keep it going.

E3 price cut will change this.

The system is awash in RPGs, a niche genre, and not a whole lot else. Even during its "peak year," 2013, the notable releases were:

Fire Emblem
Sonic & All-Stars
Etrian Odyssey IV
Castelvania: Lords of Shadow
Monster Hunter 3
Luigi's Mansion
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
Soul Hackers
Lego City Undercover
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Project X-Zone
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Mario & Luigi Dream Team
Scribblenauts Unmasked
Etrian Odyssey Untold
Rune Factory 4
Pokemon X
Pokemon Y
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Batman: Arkham Origins
Angry Birds: Star Wars
Mario Party
Legend of Zelda

Twenty-four notable releases, and depending on how one defines the term about half of them are RPGs.

So, what do you think needs to be done? Less RPGs (and more whatever) surely won't fix this.

3DS has no games.  The only ones to look forward to are Theatrhythm Curtain Call and Super Smash Bros.

I believe you mean it only has a few AAA games coming out in the near future.  Because it most certainly has games.

It would be a good start though: if people buy hardware to play software, creating more software that caters beyond a niche audience is a logical place to begin. For example, sports fans (arcade or sim) were given little reason to buy the system last year: that's a big audience to skip. People who like platformers, shooters, rhythm games, puzzle games, fighters, and really just about every genre that isn't the SRPG or JRPG were largely hung out to dry. That's not a wise way to support a platform!

Nintendo completely failed to keep momentum going with the 3DS. Mainly because they dropped the ball on Western 3rd party support.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
