It would be a good start though: if people buy hardware to play software, creating more software that caters beyond a niche audience is a logical place to begin. For example, sports fans (arcade or sim) were given little reason to buy the system last year: that's a big audience to skip. People who like platformers, shooters, rhythm games, puzzle games, fighters, and really just about every genre that isn't the SRPG or JRPG were largely hung out to dry. That's not a wise way to support a platform!
