The difference is that if the big three are all doing well, everybody is winning because it means there is healthy competition which drives the big three to go out of their way to supply the consumer with exactly what they want. Where as, if your team loses in the world cup, you can't say you won? You got nothing out of that loss but disappointment.

Looks like you don't know any fans.

Winning is nice but losing is when it's getting really interesting. Slander for the opposing team cranks up, accusations of cheating, excuses are through the roof. Fandom lives and breaths both victories and losses. That's what fandom is about.

Fandom (consisting of fan [fanatic] plus the suffix -dom, as in kingdom) is a term used to refer to a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of sympathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest. Fans typically are interested in even minor details of the object(s) of their fandom and spend a significant portion of their time and energy involved with their interest, often as a part of a social network with particular practices (a fandom); this is what differentiates "fannish" (fandom-affiliated) fans from those with only a casual interest.

All fandoms are the same and are practiced the same. There is no difference in a sports fan or a gaming console fan.

So when the OP starts slandering console fans he also slanders every other fandom which behaves the same. Which is extremely ironic because I'm sure that he is ta least a fan himself of a few things and behaves irrationally because of that.

For me it is more a discussion as to what sales trends mean for the industry. Is it growing or shrinking, what genres are dominant, sequels versus new IPs, etc.

The only argument I've seen comes when tracking is really off such as VGC compared to NPD last month.

The same as myself. Yet I have come across craziness where people literally "HATE" someone because of their console. Seriously, because of their console. Man, if you had a purple toaster, and I had a yellow one would you hate me?

Where do you see so much hate?

I also just like discussing trends, predictions, likes & dislikes.

There are people who come on and declare such & such is the best console ever, best game ever, or a console will sell a lot more than is realistic.  Disagreeing with them is not hate.

No, this is a video game sales website, that is why people come here to talk numbers. If you think it is stupid then you are in the wrong place. This website is all about who is winning and if your console of choice it is not winning then *excuse me* tough sh*t.

And did you create the console random15? And do you understand business stragety because what would you define as winning? If the xbox one has made more money due to higher profit margins, doesn't that meant that they are winning in your mind set? Yes, it does!! Were you born of a console or did you pledge allegience to one? What is it that makes you part of that "race" to win? Because you walked into gamestop and purchased a console?

I am wondering how much it costed to lock down all those huge exclusives without impressive sales compared with the market leader.

Once you entered you won't be the same anymore. A blog about life.

Since i own two of the least successful consoles (wii U and Vita) of this new generation, i just don't care about sales anymore and enjoy them for what they are and what they have. Neither console has disappointed me so far and at the end of the day when everything becomes retro that will be all that matters.

Sales and console arguments sometimes (but rarely) have valid points but most of the time its pointless. Still interesting though until trolls get involved anyway

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018
