Forums - Website Topics - Why is being a vocal member of a community frowned upon?

I once said facts about a game's visuals and was viciously attacked for "bashing" the company and the game.
Just for naming a single fact. Could you believe it?

What has this world come to :(

I've wondered the same thing for years. On 1up, I was seen as a super troll for being an Xbox hater and speaking my honest opinions. But, 1up is gone and it is almost time to be super vocal here. I've been waiting for the right time. The time for gamemaster4747 on VGChartz is almost here!

Oh we're going to get along just fine

To be fair, in the same thread you also called Nintendo fans hypocritical and a hive mind.

As someone who believes in letting others make their own minds up, I'm posting the link to the thread - for others to read and make their own minds up whether you were indeed viciously attacked or not. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=183695&page=1

I'm always dubious about threads like this, which allow people to subversively complain about other people in this way. It can lead to flaming by stealth.

My posts are so insightful that they are often misconstrued as breaking forum rules :D
I often simply resort to math or parody cause it's easier to get away with.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

I'm sorry, are you suggesting people should be aloud to have their own standards and opinions of their hobby, and that people shouldn't immediately attack them for it?

What kind of despicable demon are you?!

Its already been raised by other posters. This is a legitimate and reasonable thread, lets keep the stealth flaming of individuals out of it though please

Which you have to admit is the best kind of flaming :)

Also you need to discern between sarcasm and flaming. The mods obviously did since I didn't get banned for any of this.

I realize this was a topic close to your heart but at least with posts coming from me you can assume them to be all in good fun ;)

But don't tell the others. I have a good reputation of hating everything Nintendo to lose.

And nor did I, so they obviously didn't consider that you had been viciously attacked, either.

We all have different opinions, sometimes it's hard for others to accept them.

Being a vocal member is fine; it's all about what those vocals consist of.

This. Someone feeling like it's their duty to damand a video game change something as completely subjective as it's artstyle because he/she feels entitled to their differing preference, to cite a completely random and unrelated example, is not fine. Some other people may view something like that as elitist and respond by, well, frowning apon those kinds of vocal community members.
