Forums - Website Topics - Why is being a vocal member of a community frowned upon?

Being a vocal member is fine; it's all about what those vocals consist of.

Very true. I'm referring to how people get bashed for respectful opinions. For example, I criticize something about a videogame that I felt could have been done better, and then get called out for it in a disrespecful way.

I guess it's more a matter of respectfulness, debate is great and I'm happy that people have a wide array of opinions, I just don't like it when people convey them in a rude way.

Is this one of those cases where I can say, "We need names, OP"?

Secret burning desire for a game director.

As someone with a not-at-all-secret burning desire for a game director, I think he just needs to be honest with his feelings.

Not gonna point out names, but a certain Zelda Wishlist thread has a lot of it going on.

people on the internet are way too vocal and self-entitled. The cumulative effect is terrible.

That's why.

"It happens in every community, and I know there's no way to avoid it..."

So, then whats the problem? I mean, you said it yourself, some of us take our allegiances way too far and it tends to clash with other who do not agree. I think it's a matter of carefully balancing your outspoke-ness. If you are constantly bashing one specific company, even if it is more multiple, horrid practices, it can be seen as fanboyish rage, however valid your points may be.

I know i've become more tolerable over the past years here, but I got a aways to go. Like I have mentioned before, it make this site more alive. Nobody likes a circle-jerk, or at the very least, they aren't very entertaining.
