Forums - Gaming Discussion - What is the "Weirdest Japanese game" you've played?

Rapelay...

not really. Probably Beautiful Katamari.

Although Killer is Dead is crazy as well.

Retail game - Hyperdimension Neptunia

Indie game - Purin To Ohuro

...

Hmmm.... don't remember the name, now. It's a japanese game based on QTEs and rythmic sequences on which a guy who's working in an office suddenly sees that someone plants a bomb, throws himself out of the window and start doing balance on a flagpole, and meanwhile a giant boulder is going to crush him, so he ends up saying goodbye to his family then gets into a boat that starts sinking and you have to start getting water out of it until you get to safe land and...err... there was more, but that's as far as I remember.

Feel the Magic XY/XX. Good game though.

More people might know that as it's western name of Project Rub, there is a Sequel to that as well you know, also weird and pretty cool.

Came here to post this.

Probably Takeshi no Chousenjou. I don't think it's really supposed to be "played", though. More like IT plays YOU.

You should try some VNG's! They are incredibly easy to run, since they are comprised of just images and anything older than a few years likely runs at 800 x 600 (they moved over to 720p and 1080p with about the same speed as a bunny immediately after being shot).

There are some amazing non-explicit VNG's with great story telling and interesting character choices , and then there are the... other ones o_o

Japanese sure have vivid imagination.. Weirdest game i ever played was on PS1, don't know the name.. But your walking in a forrest of bamboo and crazy shit just comes at you.. A strange geisha lady with her neck stretching all over screen to give you a close up of her face. Crying ghost babies floating over the screen. Just crazy things, after playing 10 minutes your brain feels on crack..

Also one for the weird books is the Cho Aniki serie...

The Europe version is named Project Rub, although I didn't know this until I looked it up after you mentioned it being the western name.  The US version is named Feel the Magic XY/XX.  The sequel is called Rub Rabbits.  It's not as good as the first game, but it's still good.

Ah right, didn't know it was called the XY/XX outside of japan, the Sequel was called The Rub Rabbits here too, the game is great just for the theme music humming :)

When it comes to my own personal most weird Japanese game tho it has to be this Gem from the PS2, it's just.... so messed up.

The video includes a girl in a bath btw, ps2 era graphics and nothing really below the neck.
