Last Gen was clearly dominated by the FPS genre. Most console gens have one genre that sticks out and stays consistently popular throughout, but it doesnt always carry over to the gen after it.

Will Gen 8 be dominated by the FPS genre like Gen 7 before it? Or will another genre take its place, and if so, which?

I think open world or ''semi'' open world will dominate. TPS basically.

I'm going to guess Action Adventure. Games like Tomb Raider and Assassins creed where they have open worlds, but they aren't quite RPGS. Heck I even expect Uncharted 4 to have an open world.

Social games.

This. Open world third person games ala GTA V, Infamous: Second Son, Sunset Overhyped, Watch_Dogs, Assasin's Creed IV, blah blah, blegh.

Online driven games like League of Legends and Titanfall.

Can we have a gen with a big variety, and no dominant games?

FPS will continue to be the "Blockbuster" franchise in our industry.

Call of Duty will continue to sell 20 Million a Year. Battlefield will continue to push gigantic numbers. Halo will still be a 10 Million seller. Destiny is going to be huge.

Just expect it to shift from a linear genre to a more open world genre.
