New hardware announcement soon? Hmmm.

i really hope they don't release a new console soon in the next year or 2 cause in the end that will do more harm then good just look at sega with the saturn

They dont have a choice, they cant survive off 3.6m sales a year.

They will release new hardware but it will be a new handheld. Rushing out a home console really would be suicide. Just imagine the amount of momentum and mass market relevance the PS4 and XO are going to have in 2 years with titles like FF15, MSG5, Uncharted 4, Halo 5, Gears 4, Fallout/Elderscrolls Kingdom Hearts 3, a ton of unannouced stuff, New Ips and probably a $299 price tag... Nintendo has to allow those systems to die down and bit (late 2017 IMO). They also have to allow space for affordable technology to far surpass what sony and microsoft are offering.

Really their best bet with the Wii U is to stop loosing money from it; which means maintaining its current price point but increasing hardware sales through compelling software and holiday promotions. Also for the first time since launch, I'm thinking a system without the gamepad may not be so crazy, non of their up coming games even use it.

I see a non-gamepad Wii U more likely then ever. If anything, it would at least bring them into (or very near) the green.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

All i can think off is you have to be crazy to release some of the biggest gaming franchises on such a small install base.

Most likely scenario: They drop the tablet control and relsease a new handheld soon, possibly a tablet console and merge both product into one.

Crazy but welcome scenario: Microsoft sells of the Xbox division to Nintendo. They port their franchises to the XBone and they have a console with third party support.

Alright, we will take your word for it since thats what they did with the GC.

Oh wait... it wasnt. Give it a rest, the prediction is good, and Nintendo isnt going to rush into anything. Its just your opinion afterall.

Ouch indeed. Hopefully they'll outperform these predictions, but damn that's poor if they think that is a realistic estimate.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Yeah I'm glad Nintendo have realized the Wii U is not going be a success, I just hope the people/person responsible for the Wii U steps down and that Nintendo promote or hire someone that has a proven track record with designing successful consumer electronics devices.

A new console in 2016 would make sense

like hmm iwata?

I don't beleive Iwata is the one who came up with the Wii U's design.

Personally, I think they are estimating a lower number than they think they will actually sell. They've had their projected number sold incorrect for the past 2-3 quarters (at least I believe) so they wanted to set a number that they KNOW FOR A FACT they won't sell less than. If the Wii U can't sell that much in the next year with the epic software they have coming this year then the gaming industry in general is in trouble because xb1 and ps4 have NOTHING on the Wii U 2014 lineup.

Sounds to me like they're shooting to under-promise then over-deliver this year. Starting the fiscal year with Mario Kart 8 and advertising it for the remainder of the calendar year is a good idea. There will be a positive spike via Smash Bros, and who knows what else may do the same.

It's quite possible they'll blow right through that estimate within the launch window of MK8...

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
