Forums - Nintendo Discussion - As it stands, the 3DS lineup for the rest of 2014 is seriously lacking

This is the thread where people have to realize that third parties suck. The 3DS dominated the Japanese hardware charts for well over two years and has an installed base of over 15m units, yet the system is treated like an also-ran despite numerous third party hits. The 3DS should get the lion share of third party software, because it has earned that spot. However, third parties decided that they have to save the Vita.

This is why i dont understand people who cry third party with WiiU (and other consoles). 3DS in japan is perfect example, despite the massive difference in userbase, most third parties still flock to sony (even though sony doesn't support it)

Nintendo likes to keep things secret. And we haven't even had E3 yet?

I agree. After SSB4, there really isn't that much to be excited about.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

This is not true... 3DS does get the lion share of 3rd party support. It gets most of the big IPs (Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, Taiko no Tatsujin, Kingdom Hearts, Resident Evil, Professor Layton, etc) exclusively in one form or another, as well as plenty of niche support. It could be better, but that has more to do with smartphones than with Vita. That's what's taken away resources when compared to DS/PSP.

There's only a few niche developers that pretty much stick to Sony platforms exclusively, hardly representative of the whole (namely Nippon Ichi, Compile Heart/Idea Factory, Gust and Falcom). This is from where most of the exclusive Vita support comes from. The rest of support is mostly due to the ease of porting with PS3 and PSP, sharing the games with them (God Eater, Toukiden, J-Stars VS, Project Diva, Final Fantasy X HD, Super Robot Taisen, etc). While 3DS doesn't get these games because of this, it gets their own exclusives instead. Instead of a Project Diva multiplatform, it gets Project Mirai. Instead of a Super Robot Taisen multiplatform, it gets an exclusive one. And instead of Final Fantasy X HD, it gets Bravely Default. When you take into account the factors of exclusivity and appeal, you see that 3DS does get the most from the big publishers, as well as most of the medium/niche ones like Atlus, Success, and arguably Arc System Works and Marvelous. Just looking at number of releases alone is misleading. It's just not the same to get Monster Hunter 4 than a VN port. The quality of the support in terms of resources, risk, and expectations sales-wise (in relation to the developer/publisher) is what matters the most here.

Speaking of smartphones, I forgot about Puzzle and Dragons Z before... That one is bound to be localized, and it could very well be released this year. It will probably be a big seller too...

Been saying this forever! And seeing how Smash is coming in the Summer, it doesn't have a big holiday game!

No no no!! Look at my above post with NSMB2. Nintendo can easily release a huge holiday game without announcing it any time soon

Of course they can announce and release a new game at any given moment, but as of right now, what I said remains true!

What am I judging? The 3DS currently does not have a big holiday game. That's just a simple fact!

new 2d metroid will be announced for holidays 2014

Smartphones or Vita, the result is the same: Third parties suck. Releases for the 3DS should be much more frequent, instead it looks like support is drying up for no good reason.

Well, I can partially agree here... While there's some obvious reasons to justify smartphone support, I don't think Japanese publishers are looking at the big picture... The smartphone market can't entirely replace handhelds in the near future at least (specially for Japan), and not giving the appropiate support to 3DS now would not only be ignoring potential profit short term from the already established install base (not to mention how certain IPs are being treated...), but also putting into question the future of said platforms... It's not like Sony has proven to be reliable here, so it's mostly in the hands of Nintendo now. And I do think the support is below what you would expect for the situation of the platform... They do suck for that... >.<

I'm optimistic about the short term support though. While I don't see this whole situation drastically changing any time soon, I'm confident there's enough coming to have a nice 2014 and 2015. Hopeful speculation of course, but as valid or more as the pessimism that others show...

The 3DS had an incredible year in 2013. Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Project X Zone, Etrian Odyssey IV, MH3, LoZ:ALBW, Bravely Default (EU), Animal Crossing:New Leaf, Pokemon X/Y and probably a few others I have forgotten.

This year so far we have had a poor Yoshi's Island game and Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney.

As it stands, the rest of the year has MH4, Mario Golf, Kirby:Triple Deluxe and Smash, which also has a Wii U version.   Personally, I tried Monster Hunter last year and didn't like it and I have no interest in Mario Golf.

A lot of people talk about Wii U needing a big E3, and it does, but I think and hope that we see a lot of 3DS content that has a release date in 2014, otherwise I don't think I will be playing much 3DS this year.

I imagine 95% are going to disagree, but what are your thoughts?  What are you looking forward to on Nintendo's handheld this year?

Lets compare every year instead of just 2013 cuz 2013 3ds was probably one of the best handheld years ever!!!

*snip*

This and obvious more will show up. Im going to bet at least LoZ MM 3D and a 2D Metroid

What was the criteria for this list? Just every exclusive?
