I disagree. We need at least five more Lightning games to wrap everything up.

Glad to see a new generation (or is it just guys from the old generation?) enjoying this classic. It's a bit more linear than I remember but I'm still enjoying it very much. |
With blitzball you can just get the right players at the start, then after the first few matches, you can basically play it with your eyes closed. The Al Bhed Psyches are still tricky, but I did just win a game 10-0.
But I'm now through 1 tournament and 2 leagues. So still only half way to getting World Champion... then Wakka won't feel so rubbish when Tidus and Rikku are doing 99,999 and he can only do 9,999

I think they made it easy on purpose, so you'd just play it as a grind not a challenge. On my first ever play through, I lost, but then I didn't understand it. This time and any other time, I win because I know how to play it. It's very simple and getting the right players before you play properly helps. My main thing is making sure I have control and not letting it be auto movement. Then you can draw characters away from positions. Tidus is pretty much my only scorer, Ropp in middle, Kyou in goal.
And was the 10-0 against Ronsos by any chance? The toughest ones to beat I find are Guado because of their speed, if they get away from you. Otherwise, drew once, early on, not lost since.
Hmm, pie.
This game deserves more threads!
Great sales so far and I hope it continues that way, not because I am a fan of SE latest work but just to justify the greatness that is FFX.
I just passed Biran and Yenke and will soon be fighting another boss. Already picked up Nirvana,Caladbolg and the rusty sword of course.
And again it was a bitch to get that 00:00:00 score for me.

I actually lost during the main game. But then I followed my Pennance guide and got the best players, after the first few games, the AI doesn't really matter, my stats are just better. I can just use auto movement, Tatts gets the ball, passes to Tidus, he get's vaguely near the goal and scores. I've lost 2 games, during the story and then the first time I played the Psyches
I think it was Kilika, but I am literally playing it while only watching half the time. I do sometimes pass around for XP, but often just Jecht shot from the half way line to waste like 45 seconds (it also does vaguely frequently score).
But ugh, another 2 leagues and 2 games in the tournament I'm doing.
I actually find the rest of the griding reasonbly fun

This term has only been used negatively at the start of 2010.

Turn based games can still be evolved. XCOM and Bravely Default are two recent examples of that. Also it doesn't need to really change. Don't fix what isn't broken. |
XCOM isn't an RPG and Bravely Default isn't an evolution of the formula imo. It's more of the same.

Yeah, I saw that when people were bashing FFXIII. I didn't notice it when I played FFX back in the day and if I did, I didn't care. When people kept saying "FFX is linear too", I just ignored them. And FFX does still feel like it offers more choice. I just didn't know how much restriction it had until now...and it still doesn't hamper my enjoyment.
