Forums - Gaming Discussion - Amazon Fire TV announced -game, movie streaming hardware

If amazon was smart they would try to pull the media-console rug right out from under the Xbox One. If it did all the entertainment things the Xbox One was advertised for while costing $150, it would pretty much eat up that entire market...

I agree, a 150$ gaming/media device has a far better chance than a 500$ one.

yeah as I thought. No real competition for MS, Sony and Nintendo.

I'll miss you, Double Helix.

Offers nothing new and is no better than the devices that most people already have.
Maybe it will get better one day, but right now it is pointless.

?. You are assuming most people on an Ouya, Roku, or Apple TV? A new faster media box that can play decent games could be a hit. NO, other device can do that (Besides a PC)

PS4/Xbox One/Wii U are not the (exact) same market.

Yeah, they didn't announce any game streaming stuff at this which was a surprise. Not to say they won't announce it in the future. This would be a no brainer to get if you need a NEW streaming box or were replacing an old one. But I will see how it improves in the near future.

I wish there were a Kindle app where you could read on the TV and just say 'Next page' when you needed it to flip. LOL

I have always thought it would be a good idea for Sony/MS to partner with Amazon/Barnes and Noble to bring their digital books to consoles. It seems to me it would have moderate success.

And another glorified Ouya. But probably with more success since people buy everything from Amazon.

Ugh, this is AMAZON who has a ton of money, not a company with no ties to the gaming industry and no money.

Sony screwed up by not releasing the Vita TV in the west sooner. It had an advantage because it could play console like quality games for cheap, but now that Amazon has their Amazon Fire TV product which is going to be integrated to Amazon, the Vita TV is fucked. It has no chance now that Amazon is going to get that casual based gaming market who wants cheap console like quality games and who do we have to thank for that? Fucking Sony, who honestly need to get their heads out of their asses. They're doing nothing with the PS4 except having designed it well and priced it cheap, and the system is selling itself with nothing but Infamous that's worthwhile on it, while Microsoft is actually trying to sell consoles but can't. Sony isn't doing anything different than they did last gen. They're dragging their feet just like they did with the beginning of literally every single console launch they've been a part of.  Amazing products, but Sony is ran by morons with the amount of poor business decisions we see from them on a regular basis.
