I can't argue against that. :P

Yuna>Lightning

Cant agree.  Not because I think lightning is a better character than yuna, because she isnt.  The problem with yuna is her voice actress is so terrible that it makes her terrible as well.  If she had a better voice actress then yes Yuna>lightning, but she doesnt...

While I agree with some of the points made, I cannot agree with anyone who calls it a bad game. I enjoyed the game and to the OP. You do know that it can be completed in 40hours. 80hours if you're aiming for platinum. If it was really a bad game, then why are there games with lower metacritic ratings? Some really enjoyed the game and as such, it cannot be called a bad game if there is a fanbase for that particular game.

Anyway a reply to the OP: that's your opinion. I thought ff13 was good and I've played almost every single final fantasy.

In before the few people who rush in to say that if don't play the game on manual the entire game, then you're playing it wrong.  I'm not one of those people btw.  When using auto battle gets the job done and is mostly efficient except on boss battles, then why not use it?   FF13 sucks imo.  I gave it a 3.75.  I think I overrated it.

Auto battle is definitely the most efficient for a majority of the game. FF13 fans who say otherwise are just salty. There are a few select battles in the game such as the Adamantoise or some of those Cieth stone missions where manual is recommended or even required.

the level design made me laugh, but we are kinda beating this over the head at this point. Some like it, some dont let it go. Play FF10 again or something, hell thats what i might do.

Final Fantasy XIII is a game. That's it. Not good, nor bad. That's up to subjective debate.

Given how little interaction you actually had in both gameplay and story, I hardly think it qualifies as a game.  more like interactive visual experience...and a poor one at that.

The OP has it almost perfect.  The gameplay has almost no interaction in it (pre-chose six 'battle formations' from a list of 24, actually attempting to control your character will kill anyone not an expert in the game), not to mention you only 'control' ONE of the three characters, and if they die, it's game over.  The story is 'good', but it is poorly told.  over 90% of the story is told through in-game encyclopedia, rather than woven into the narrative like a GOOD game story.

it's just....bad.  functional, sure (with great production values), but the story and gameplay were both utter failures.

I'm playing through FFX right now, and the story is almost as linear, but like OP said, it's actually fine because there's plenty of side quests, minigames, and exploration.  Plus the gameplay required actual thought, foreplanning, and offered you complete control of up to SEVEN characters.

At least with XII (which allowed the game to play itself), you had a LOT of control over the precise scenarios and reactions of all six of your characters.  That, and it had a LOT of exploration, side quests, etc.  I do admit the main line story is pretty simple, and much of the actual 'story'  is in side quests and hidden content.

Little interaction in the gameplay? This is no FF XIV, but still, you could auto-attack, throw items, manage the paradigms amd the TP, switch party, change equipment, change accessories, explore the ocassional branches in the map, dig items on the ground, avoid combats, do sidequests, I mean, WHAT else do you want? You have to switch paradigms. You still have to cast Libra if you want a chance against certain bosses. From time to time, you have to choose an attack your character refuses to (like Dazzle). You have to take care your HP doesn't go too low; you need to prepare your characters for the adventure beign. If leveling up the wrong Crystaliarium, you're forced to grind to make up for your mistake.

You wanted to press "attack" to "attack"? Is that your difference between a game and a "poorly interactive visual experience"? Seriously?

And the story ain't a failure. It manages to be far more complex than what it really is, but it is a story with a prologue, a middle and a closure. What more could you ask? Post-ending DLC to further expand the universe? Better the XIII ending than the fifteen-second sequence of Dark Souls, despite being an ultra superior game on every other area in my opinion.

Again, this is a game. Whether you like it or not, that's a different thing. But you can't come an qualify XIII as an "objectively bad game", because that's nonsense.

You're actually wrong at these points Wright.

Bartandalus didn't want Bhunivelze to come; he wanted the maker.  The only way the maker would come, is if Etro opens the door to her.  This happens briefly when someone dies.  Bartandalus and Atamos wanted enough people dying at once to open up the gate long enough to get to the maker.  Note this is only vaguely said once in the game.  Even then they don't explain those floating crystal thingies that are needed to open the door (You see them floating around in Oerba).

Everyone got out of crystalization after 500 years, not because the party is free.  They actually never explained why Fang and Vanille never turned back after that 500 years and let cocoon fall down and kill whoever was crystalized (By Fang and Vanille) on Cocoon.  That part is a plot hole.

Gameplay wise; here you are technically right, except, why go through all that when 2 ravagers and a commando will get you through 90% of the battles only a second or two slower than trying?  The game turns into a huge button mashin fest.  Now if they actually balanced the game like in FF XIII-2 then everything would have been fine.

He was maxed out at Bartandalus, since the crystarium is locked until you finish the game.  Can't say he's wrong here.

I have to go back to the game to clarify the first point, but yeah, you might be right there.

2 ravagers and a commando won't get you through 90% of the battles, considering how much amount of time you are with only two characters :) and when you get three, at least on the first half of the game, is to battle some kind of giant boss. Like the Flying Warship outside Hope's house. After reaching Pulse, two Ravagers and a Commando WON'T save you through all the battles, though there's a good amount of fauna that is beaten that way.
