Forums - Gaming - FF13 Sucks... here's why.

While I agree with some of the points made, I cannot agree with anyone who calls it a bad game. I enjoyed the game and to the OP. You do know that it can be completed in 40hours. 80hours if you're aiming for platinum. If it was really a bad game, then why are there games with lower metacritic ratings? Some really enjoyed the game and as such, it cannot be called a bad game if there is a fanbase for that particular game.

Anyway a reply to the OP: that's your opinion. I thought ff13 was good and I've played almost every single final fantasy.

There are people who really enjoy having their testicles being electrocuted.  But having your testicles electrocuted still really sucks, even if some sickos enjoy it.  Similarly, just because some deranged people enjoyed FFXIII doesn't mean it wasn't awful.

You're actually wrong at these points Wright.

Bartandalus didn't want Bhunivelze to come; he wanted the maker.  The only way the maker would come, is if Etro opens the door to her.  This happens briefly when someone dies.  Bartandalus and Atamos wanted enough people dying at once to open up the gate long enough to get to the maker.  Note this is only vaguely said once in the game.  Even then they don't explain those floating crystal thingies that are needed to open the door (You see them floating around in Oerba).

Everyone got out of crystalization after 500 years, not because the party is free.  They actually never explained why Fang and Vanille never turned back after that 500 years and let cocoon fall down and kill whoever was crystalized (By Fang and Vanille) on Cocoon.  That part is a plot hole.

Gameplay wise; here you are technically right, except, why go through all that when 2 ravagers and a commando will get you through 90% of the battles only a second or two slower than trying?  The game turns into a huge button mashin fest.  Now if they actually balanced the game like in FF XIII-2 then everything would have been fine.

He was maxed out at Bartandalus, since the crystarium is locked until you finish the game.  Can't say he's wrong here.

I have to go back to the game to clarify the first point, but yeah, you might be right there.

2 ravagers and a commando won't get you through 90% of the battles, considering how much amount of time you are with only two characters :) and when you get three, at least on the first half of the game, is to battle some kind of giant boss. Like the Flying Warship outside Hope's house. After reaching Pulse, two Ravagers and a Commando WON'T save you through all the battles, though there's a good amount of fauna that is beaten that way.

Wright, I was using 2 ravagers and a commando right up until Bartandalus.  The only time I didn't was right after a boss fight, where the difficulty spikes up, then it was a commando, healer and ravager.

And I wasn't. The wonders of videogames, huh? Different experiences from a single game for everyone :)

That's why no game can be objectively called "Bad". That's bullshit. You can dislike the game, and so a lot of people with XIII, but that doesn't mean it is objectively a bad game. It is merely a game. And I did like it.

I read the whole original post! =D I didn't hate the game, but the graphics were clearly more important than gameplay when they made this... Enough said.

I haven't played it in a year, I got to the save point right before a boss fight, it was the "summon" (?) of Vanilla or the other tattoo girl. That's all I remember. Can't find the disc either so I haven't finished it yet.

Yep.

Yes Final Fantasy XIII is a terrible game. I think it's the worst in the series. That said, can we stop with all "dead horse" reviews already?

and just because you're not capable of enjoying it does not people who do are deranged.

It looks pretty ;)

Most of your points are valid except for the story and combat.
Combat might seem boring to you for a veteran of RPGs but it is still a very good spin on the old ATB. It s fluid and looks great. Also without grinding and meticulously planned paradigm builds combined with perfect timing you won't be able to win the hardest battles.

And as I told you, the story is just as stupid and contrived as any other FF story. At least it is something new *looks at any WRPG*. You obviously put great effort in finding something to nitpick. If you would care to give that treatment to any other FF game you will see how "flawed" FF is as a whole.
Yet that still didn't stop people to love the series.

Maybe it is because people don't care about the points you find so appalling and instead are focusing on the good stuff like the spectacle and the chance to explore a new world and characters.

Yup it does.  Being able to follow the storyline presented clearly demonstrates some form of mental disorder.

Who knew? I mean during the last 4 years no one has said anything bad about this game.

This is a complete revelation to me and in fact to the entire universe.

ok i take it back because if someone is defined as "normal" just because they're not able to follow the overall plot of FF13 to a degree that it makes sence for them, i gladly be on the mental disorder side.
