The guy retreats to a neighbours? FFS if my kid threw just 1 remote his colon would become intimately acquainted with my boot.

unless he has a knife

Wow, so video games really do make you evil and destructive.

Who woulda thunk?

If only he could have said "xbox off" instead of pressing the button, then all of this would have been avoided....

He could have even said it in such a way that it seems like an accident, like "when are you going to turn your Xbox off?"

Seems like a fair exchange :P

Why is this news? This isn't a problem video games are causing. A mentally unstable kid went off his meds and surprise, he acted mentally unstable.

Sounds like a valid response to me.

All of this would have been avoided if he had got him a Wii U instead.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

Clearly the kid was mentally disturbed in some way. Probably bipolar or something. I have had way too much experience with people like that...

I know one guy who had ADD, apparently most of them are fat turds who never do a damn thing with their lives. The one I knew believed himself to be the center of the universe, he always did the asshole move. He was very smart about doing it, but without exception, if he could get away with being an asshole, he would. Not only that his room was literally a mountain of garbage encircling his bed. Thank god I'm not friends with him anymore... Complete piece of shit.

Second one was my brother, he's a schizophrenic. The medicine has fried his brain pretty bad, he can't really function anymore. He also thinks he's the center of the universe. He's afraid to push buttons so he will literally wake my mom up at all hours of the day to change the channel for him. In and out of hospitals since puberty, hes a mess now...

This sort of thing doesn't shock me. I think 70% of the world is filled with assholes who only really care about themselves and mental disorders pretty much amplify that about 10 times over. Most people have barriers that keep their bullshit under control to a certain degree, mental disorders seem to take those limiters off.

Seems like a reciprocal response to me...

and lol at it taking place in saint george! that is where I grew up!

While the kid definitely was out of line, and some legal punishment is justified, the charges given are total bullshit. Any decent lawyer could reduce those charges considerably unless there was significant anti-gaming bias amongst the jury.

That said, I'm sure the issues go deeper than just video games. Look at the situation. It's a stepfather, that ripe for family issues right there. Furthermore, shutting down the system was uncalled for, that would be like shutting down someone's PC while they were on it, talk about rude. Then look at the initial response. The kid threw remotes. Ooo, scary. Why the hell did the stepfather run to a neighbor over a couple of remotes? To call the cops over that, no less? Remember, the kid didn't get a knife until AFTER the stepfather had gone next door and called the cops. All he did was damage some property. He didn't attack the stepfather with a weapon, he tried to fuck up his stepfather's prized possession. Kid probably hates living there, gets disrespected by his stepfather all the time, and decided to knock the bastards ego down a notch. I hope the kid gets off scot-free, or as close to it as possible.
