Is this a sign of what used games have done to the industry? Software companies are so scared of losses that they are cutting hours of play and modes? I'm going to bed. I'm tired and a little disappointed.

no, thats what starting from scratch as a new developer does to the game...

Really because I can remember every single game before this doing a SP.....

Warhawk on PS3 shipped without a single player mode (or even a mp campaign mode like Titanfall), but for $/€ 60 it came with a blu tooth headset.

And there was this Shadowrun MP shooter game for X360/PC, afaik that one didn't have an SP either.

BTW, I think Titanfall should come atleast with a 1 month or 3 month Xbox live Gold voucher, as you can't play the game without Gold.

If you play a SP only game, do you ever complain about how there is no MP mode and how that's cheapening the value of the game? No, you don't. In fact, most people get annoyed if a dev puts tacked on MP on to their SP game, telling them to focus on the SP mode more and make it even better than tacking in MP. So if that's the case for SP games, why can't a dev put all their efforts and make a highly enjoyable, full blown MP game without putting on a horrible tacked on 4-5 hour SP mode that has no replay value like in most shooters?

If a SP dev can make a solid content filled game that has no MP mode without making you feel that the value of the game has been cheapened, then a MP dev should also be able to do the same with a good MP game with no SP mode. If it's the contrary, then just don't buy the MP game. I will personally buy a game, whether it's SP only, MP only or both depending on how good the game is and if it's fun enough to deserve my money. I don't have a preconceived notion of a game NEEDING to have either a SP or MP mode for it to be good value for money.

Yep. If someone is ok with a 10-12 hour SP game, they should be ok with a MP only game that can last 100 hours + for the same price. Unless they value MP differently. In which case that would be the underlying issue, not the design of the game.

Yes but those 10-12 SP usually comes with MP. Not only that  you're not on the same few boards that have nothing to search for or do, just capture base or random MP games.

I think people underestimate the power of SP even in an MP focused game. The SP campaign is how you get to know the world and the characters that inhabit it. I thought the campaign mode in Titanfall would attempt to do that, but no one talks about the Titanfall campaign.

Maybe the Titanfall movie, TV series, or books can take care of that side of things. Maybe the SP fills in the details of the world and makes it the player feel more connected to it?! A loss in Titanfall's campaign should hurt and have consequences.

It would be one thing if they game lived up to the hype. Maybe if it had an addictive MP like some of the call of duty games. But for me it dosnt. I have about 3 hours un the game and no motivation to turnb t back on. An SP campaign if done right could have remedy this.

I think SP is very important. A good, non-tacked on multiplayer is always welcome in any game, but SP is integral. It gets you invested in the world, the character, the cause.

So we want a "tacked on" single player mode?

They only feel "tacked on" because we accept the developers doing a half-ass job on them.

The second issue is that even if "tacked on" the game still has value apart from the MP experience. In this case you are now compelled to buy Xbox Live or the game itself is worthless. Likewise at some point in the far to close future when the servers shut down, the game becomes worthless as well.

This purchase has the potential to go to a value of zero way too easily.

Theoretically games that use the Azure Cloud for "dedicated" servers should never be "shut down", because the (virtual) MP servers only exist for the session and close shortly after that, meaning that the server resources aren't being wasted by having some dedicated (for example) Titanfall servers that do nothing when nobody is playing.

Ofocurse MS or so could decide to block requests to open a virtual server in the cloud from game clients of old/outdated games, but I don't think that should be necessary.

So every game must be same now I would rather buy a multi only game then a 6 to 8 hr sp only game

I already knew what to expect that's why I didn't buy TF even for £30 on PC on Amazon uk.
I don't think I'll ever buy an MP only game at full price. If i like what I see, £15 at most is what I'll pay.
I dislike MMO's/RTS's too. its just me.

Well you're definitely not the only one that feels that way, they're having a pretty big discussion about this on reddit right now.

The game's not perfect, but that was to be expected really, I'm a bit surprised that the discussions are starting this early after release though.
