Forums - Sony Discussion - Did Sony miss out on a major opportunity with the PS4's limited stock issues?

Did Sony just give away being the undisputed leader this gen?

Yes 36 18.00%

No 95 47.50%

Maybe 44 22.00%

My cat's breath smells like cat food 24 12.00%

Total:199

I honestly think they could be in the 9-11 million sold range had they anticipated demand soon enough and ramped up production after the explosive launch.

Now I honestly see the interest returning to normal levels especially with a title like Titanfall releasing on rival platforms and the fact that the PS4 just couldn't be found anywhere. And this being tax refund season, those people probably just looked towards the Wii U or Xbone for alteratives since both where readily available during the drought.

So did Sony fk this one up despite the great launch?

I think it will make it hotter and sexier. :3

I don't think they could have produced that many, specially since they had to lay-off 5000 people. So, the way it is might have been the best they did.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Possibly, but I think they are far happier with that issue as opposed to millions sitting on shelves or in warehouses.

Most won't buy another console just because they don't get PS4 for some months so that Sony will sell to them just later. Most who bought a console are "real" gamers and big fans and they don't change their mind just because of that. I mean, at least I don't know anyone who bought an Xbox One or Wii U just because he couldn't get a PS4.

The average guy who doesn't really care about which console he buys did probably not even start to buy in the new gen except for a few percent.

They can't make them any faster...not many are going to buy another console over the one they want, most will wait, not really an issue.

I think TSMC can't produce 10 million chips in three months...

Tax return season? LOL! companies didnt need to send W2s out till the end of Jan. Most people probably didnt recieve theirs till end of jan-mid Feb. Even if they filled it out immediatly after getting it you dont get your money for another 3 weeks. Tax season JUST started and it doesnt end till end of April. Sensationalism to the max

They can't possibly make them any faster.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I don't know who makes these decisions but Sony is failing on providing content for the ps4 that's not indie. Indies aren't going to attract the casuals. AAA games are. Microsoft has Titanfall, PVZ:GW, Sunset Overdrive, and Quantum Break, and Halo this year. Sony only has Infamous, mlb, and The Order all SP only games.

Killzone failed to get any long term community, Knack (loved it) but it wasn't good in gthe eyes of the mainstream.

Sony loaded 2013 with ps3 exclusives leaving the ps4 dry. They didn't even bother with a cross gen gran turismo, last of us, pupeteer, beyond 2 souls, and ratchet ITN. Stupid.

The mp community is why xb360 became as popular as it has where are Sony's mp games? Their first party mp lineup has always been trash. I really don't know why Sony is handing Microsoft a golden platter to beat the ps4 but seriously Sony needs to get their shit straight. MS has a Halo community and a Gears community.

Sony has diddlysquat and it really pisses me off that they don't want to take the risk of buying out a mp focused studio or making a good one.''

TLDR:

Sony missed an oppertunity of their sales advantage to get their hands on any 3rd party exclusive, make mp focused games, and launching a new revolutionary ip to compliment their launch and have legs.
