No 2D game can beat Tropical Freeze's amazingly advanced fur!

Odd comparison, but I'd have to say "no". The overall technical level of DKC:TF is higher, while Trine 2 exercises a much stronger artistic style focusing primarily on high res textures and lighting.

Trine 2 looks much, much better to my eyes. I'd dare say that the only sidescrollers that can rival trine are Rayman Legends and Child of Light.

Indie devs are really showing Nintendo that they arent the only masters of the 2D/platformer genre. Its crazy that Sony and Microsoft arent giving Nintendo a run for their money there, but rather the indies are doing the work for them.

Trine may beat out DK when it comes to graphics, but its not even in the same league gameplay wise.

wow im surprised ppl saying Trine2 by far..
obviously has more detail and flashy visuals, but technically DK looks like a much more complex game, running at 60fps and doing more things per frame

"More things per frame" such as? Trine 2 Wii U is doing more lighting, more shaders, more shadowing, higher res textures, better AA...

Trine 2 Wii U looks much better than Tropical Freeze; it has more detail, higher resolution textures, more complex lighting, shadowing, and effects. The only advantage DKC has from a technical perspective is 60fps versus Trine's 30fps.

Frozenbyte put visuals as their top priority; Retro Studios did not.

I don't like the lag of Trine though. It looks amazing when taking still pictures but actually running it's dissapointing to say the least :/ It looks choppy compared to DKCTF. To me the FPS is extremely important.

60fps is definitely a big benefit to Tropical Freeze because it's so fast paced, but due to Trine 2's slower pace I didn't think 30fps was a hindrance.

I have Trine 1 and 2 on Steam, and I have to say that the Wii U version was a letdown. The game's pace felt slower than usual compared to the PC version.

Probably, but the game has always looked a bit...cluttered(?) to me. I dunno, it felt like it was doing too much, like the recent Rayman games but even more so.

Though to be fair, for both I am talking exclusively about gameplay footage I've seen since I keep forgetting to play Trine 2 and I don't own TF yet.

How is this even a question? Of course it is. Not even close.

Trine 2 is honestly one of the most eye pleasing games ever made, too bad I'm not really a big fan of the gameplay though.

If you could make a Metroid game that looked like that with good gameplay that would be incredible.

DKC: TF is a nice looking game (it definitely got a nice bump in visuals after E3), but it's also apparent in places that its built off their Wii engine rather than something made from the ground up entirely.
