Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo should make a Wii U bundle with crazy value

Nintendo needs people to buy Wii Us. Since cutting the price further isn't an option, they need to provide an overwhelming value proposition.

They should take inspiration from PS+. That initiative provided such value through the free games that people just had to sign up. It successfully got Sony customers to start paying for online on PS4 when it was a strong point of pride that they didn't on PS3. It was possible because digital games cost Sony very little to include and their launch sales periods had for the most part already happened.

They should therefore bundle a TON of digital VC, Gamecube and Wii games. Most of their back catalogue has already exhausted its sales potential to existing customers; it will save far more money than any lost potential sales if they get a few more million Wii Us set up in people's living rooms.

Differentiate the bundles by target audience, and advertise each on TV just listing a massive amount of big games. Show a Wii U surrounded by 20+ game boxes of top quality titles and the price tag will look tiny in comparison.

e.g.

Nintendo Classic Bundle: Wii U + Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Prime 3, Xenoblade, Zelda Twilight Princess, VC: Super Mario 64, Super Metroid, Zelda Link to the Past

Nintendo Play! Bundle: Wii U + Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, NSMB Wii, Wii Sports Resort, Super Paper Mario, VC: Mario Kart 64, Super Mario All-Stars, Tetris, Pokemon GSC (Off TV Play)

Why should they when they don't charge for online?

so they can ease in pay wall next gen like sony did

People didn't just HAVE to sign up. Most people didn't, in fact. I buy probably 100 games a year and I didn't even sign up until PS4 made it almost mandatory.

Haha, good one!

Anyway, I wouldn't mind having something like that as long as it is optional.

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

it won't magically move hardware. A lot of people still prefer physical games. So even freebies as digital wouldn't entice that many.

However it doesn't cost them anything so worth a shot. May prove me wrong.

I do not think PS+ provides any value if you add up the monthly fee, especially since you loose access once you stop paying. On the other hand, access to the complete Nintendo libary without any additional cost for USD 10 a moth would be nice to have.

PS+ is a great service, but I don't think the formula would work for Nintendo. Nintendo's first-party software typically sells long after release at full or near-full price. So Nintendo would probably lose money if it offered its best-selling games for $50 a year, for example. The same is true for the Virtual Console games. Nintendo can charge high prices for its legacy games because they remain popular 15, 20, 30 years later.

I would much rather Microsoft adopted the PS+/Netflix model, to be honest. "Games With Gold," as it stands now, doesn't offer a value comparable to PS+, even if the games are yours to keep in perpetuity.

I didnt think Ps+ had value for me either because i had a backlog of games already so why did i need more? but i was wrong. Let me tell you, I paid 40 dollars for a year at target and within the first day i had Gravity Rush, Street Fighter vs Tekken, Uncharted GA, Smart as, worms, wipeout, and now modnation on my vita. For ps4 on the first day i got Resogun and outlast. On my ps3 i got Payday 2. boarderlands 2, remember me, bioshock infinite, metro, brothers, and others i cant think of right now. A week later I can get Uncharted 3 (already got it though) soon to be Tomb Raider, dynex (or something like that) and little big planet karting.

and i dont need to worry about it for another year.
